This Time Out: It's a critical Ivy matchup for both teams in Philadelphia this weekend, as Dartmouth looks to improve on its 2-1 standing and Penn (1-2) hopes to stave off elimination from the Ivy race. Dartmouth needs to shake off a tough 2-0 loss at Yale in which it dominated the second half but could not find the back of the net. The Quakers have had their ups and downs, winning several non-league games by large margins, but eking past Cornell, 2-1, and falling to Harvard, 3-2 and Columbia, 4-2. In the Ivy race, Yale and Harvard sit at 2-0 each after their Oct. 3 game was called at halftime due to lightning with a rematch scheduled for Oct. 20. Columbia is also 2-1 heading into a showdown at 1-2 Princeton on Saturday. Click here for full Ivy League standings.
Last Time Out: Dartmouth had a busy weekend with games on both Oct. 9 and Oct. 11. The Big Green shook off its tough loss at Yale with a home win over instate rival New Hampshire on Sunday. Yale picked up two goals just a minute apart midway through the first half, capitalizing on some defensive miscues by the Big Green. With the 2-0 lead, the Bulldogs were able to hunker down defensively in the second half, during which Dartmouth held possession nearly the entire time. The Green ultimately held a 14-8 shot advantage but could not score a goal. On Sunday, head coach Angie Hind utilized her full bench in a team effort to defeat UNH, 2-1. Dartmouth scored a goal in each half and had the game in hand despite a late Wildcat goal and offensive flurry. Rookie Libby Hamlin (Vernon, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal off a thru ball from sophomore Ally Dutton (Granite Bay, Calif.), who played well in both games on the weekend. Senior Kelsey Quick (Bernardsville, N.J.) netted the game-winner with a long bomb after taking a pass from classmate Ali Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.).
Classy Senior: Senior midfielder Myra Sack (Wynnewood, Pa.) has been named one of 10 national finalists for the prestigious Lowe's Senior Class Award. The award recognizes excellence in competition, community, classroom and character. An All-Ivy and All-Northeast midfielder, Sack is the co-founder of Athletes United at Dartmouth and spent a semester volunteering for Soccer Without Borders in Nicaragua. Read more about Myra's candidacy here. Myra needs your help to win, as fan voting accounts for one-third of the final decision! Vote DAILY by visiting the Senior Class Award website here. Balanced Offense: Sophomore Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) is having a great season in her second year in Hanover, leading Dartmouth in scoring with 11 points including five goals. Beyond that, six other players have scored with Kelsey Quick (Bernardsville, N.J.) and Peyton Tata (Virginia Beach, Va.) each tallying two goals. Ten different Dartmouth players have recorded an assist this season, including two of the four starting backs - Melisa Krjnaic (Washington, D.C.), who has two, and Sarah Bromley (La Jolla, Calif.) - and a pair of rookie backs, Grace Best (Downingtown, Pa.) and Aurelia Solomon (Washington, D.C.).
Next Time Out: The Big Green returns home for two at Burnham Field next week. Dartmouth renews its series with Vermont on Tuesday, Oct 20 at 6 p.m. before hosting Ivy foe Columbia in a homecoming nightcap at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24.
