HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's hockey team got two goals and an assist from junior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) as the Big Green defeated McGill University, 4-2, in an exhibition game on Friday afternoon.
Dartmouth opened the scoring 2:35 into the first period on the power play as senior co-captain Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) found the back of the net with the assists going to Trunzo and senior co-captain Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.).
The Big Green increased the lead to 2-0 late into the period with Parsons netting her first goal. She got a rebound off of a Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) shot and hooked it around the goaltender as she was falling to the ice. Also assisting on the goal was Foley with her second of the game.
McGill got back to within a goal at 2-1 with 2:43 left in the period. Kim Ton-That connected with Jordanna Peroff and she beat senior goaltender Mariel Lacina (London, Ont.) between the pads to cut the lead in half.
The Martlets evened the score at 2-2, 3:40 into the second period. Victoria Wells connected with her sister Alexandra and Victoria beat Lacina to the far post to tie the score, while falling to the ice. Dartmouth went back on top two minutes later as top-liners Parsons and Trunzo hooked up for the score to make it 3-2. Parsons broke into the zone and found a wide open Trunzo at the far post and she hit the open net.
The final goal of the game came late in the last period as Trunzo netted her second of the night with an empty net goal with 39 seconds remaining to give Dartmouth the 4-2 win.
The Big Green went 1-for-4 on the power play, while McGill was held scoreless on four opportunities with the extra skater. Dartmouth fired at will on net with 40 shots to 15 by the Martlets.
Lacina got the start in net and made eight saves in 32 minutes and freshman Whitney Woodcox (Oshawa, Ont.) saw her first action, pushing aside five shots in the win.
