HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team handed Colgate its fourth loss of the season with a 200-94 victory this afternoon at Karl Michael Pool.
Dartmouth (1-4) won 14 of 17 events in an impressive showing against the Raiders.
In freestyle events, freshman Zach Doherty (Pelham. N.Y.) won the 50 yard sprint in a time of 21.62 with classmate Will Derdeyn (St. Louis, Mo.) taking third in 21.81. Onejune Chang (Great Neck, N.Y.) continued his solid start with a victories in both the 100 free in 47.22 and 200 free in 1:44.34. Doherty took third in the 100 in 47.74 while Scott Sorensen (Walnut Creek, Calif.) was third in the 20 in 1:46.67. John Hill (Erie, Pa.) was Dartmouth's top finisher in the 500 free, taking second in 4:55.36 while Billy Haley (Morristown, N.J.) led the distance swimmers with a fourth-place finish in the 1650 in 17:15.13.
Freshman Albert Roth (Aurora, Ill.) won both butterfly events, taking the 200 in 1:54.14 and the 100 in 51.51. Marco Chu (Newton, Mass.) took second in the 200 in 1:58.62 while Chang and Chu (Newton, Mass.) took second (51.83) and third (52.51) in the 100, respectively. Roth was also victorious in the 400 IM, winning in 4:08.88. Chu took second in 4:14.19.
Michael Ahern (Old Westbury, N.Y.) won both of the backstroke races, taking the 100 in 53.27 and the 200 in 1:55.70. He was followed by teammates in both as Ray Li (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) took second in the 100 in 55.52 and Joe Chance (Lafayette, La.) and Jack Driessen (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished second (2:00.88) and third (2:04.08), respectively, in the 200.
Matt Stumpf (Palm Harbor, Fla.) picked up a win in the 200 breaststroke in 2:14.58, with Ben Reasons (Naperville, Ill.) third in 2:18.12. Reasons got the better in the 100 breaststroke, winning in 1:01.23 with Stumpf second in 1:01.47.
Dartmouth won the 200 medley relay behind Ahern, Reasons, Dedeyn and Doherty in a time of 1:35.6. The Big Green was second in the 200 freestyle relay with Chang, Doherty, Derdeyn and Ahern finishing in 1:29.13.
The Big Green won both diving events as Michael Brown (Newton, Mass.) won the three meter with a score of 276.53 and Chris Plante (Valrico, Fla.) took the one meter, scoring 272.85. Each took second in the other event with Brown's score of 265.2 good for second in the one meter and Plante's 251.54 putting him second in the three meter.
Dartmouth is not in action again until Sunday, Jan. 10 when it hosts Boston University at 1 p.m.
