ST. MICHAEL'S, Md. — After carding a 338 in the first round of the Towson Women's Invitational, Dartmouth shot a 349 in the second and final round today, finishing the 10-team tournament in eighth place. Junior captain Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) led the Big Green golfers and tied for 31st with an 83-86—169 in the two-day event.
Sophomore Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.) had the low round of the day for the Dartmouth squad with an 85, although fellow sophomore Heather Roland (Newtown Square, Pa.) posted an 83 on the day and a 167 overall as an individual. Smith completed the tournament with a 171 to tie for 34th.
Rounding out the Big Green team score were freshmen Colleen Carroll (Bettendorf, Iowa) with an 87-86—173 and Emily Hyman (Chappaqua, N.Y.) with an 82-92—174. Freshman Julie Campbell (Bozeman, Mont.) finished the invitational as an individual with a 79-85—164, the best finish of all the Big Green golfers.
Yale shot the low round on both days to take home the title with a 590. Alexandra Lipa of Yale won medalist honors by finishing the tournament at one-under par (69-70—139), three strokes ahead of Longwood's Kameron Carter, the lone golfer to break par on Tuesday with a 73-69—142.
The Big Green women will next host the Dartmouth Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at the Hanover Country Club.
