Complete Game Notes
Road Success
• Dartmouth enters this game looking to garner its second straight road win after a convincing 71-57 triumph at Hartford on Friday, the first Big Green road victory since Feb. 21, 2009.
• The win over the Hawks ended not only an eight-game losing skid against Hartford, but also a 16-game slide in the state of Connecticut that dated back to 2001.
• Junior Jabari Trotter continued his hot shooting to start the year, drilling 9-of-12 from the floor and 5-of-7 on three-pointers to tally a career-high 24 points, 16 of which came in the opening half.
• Trotter leads the team in scoring at 16.0 ppg while shooting 56.3 percent overall and from downtown.
• Complementing Trotter was sophomore guard R.J. Griffin, who popped a trio of treys and scored 11 of his 13 points in the second stanza.
• Junior David Rufful posted a career high in rebounds as well, grabbing 11 boards. The 6-4 Rufful has led the Green in rebounding in each of the first three games, averaging 8.0.
• As a team, Dartmouth had 10 three-pointers in the victory, its first game in double figures on trifectas since draining 12 against Providence on Nov. 18, 2008.
Series vs. Loyola
• The two schools first played last year with the Greyhounds winning in Leede Arena, 58-41.
• Loyola outscored the Big Green down the stretch by a 21-3 margin to run away with the victory. Dartmouth was held scoreless for the final 5:42.
• Josh Riddle was the only Dartmouth player in double figures with 11 points while the team shot just 35.4 percent (17-of-48) for the game.
• Shane Walker had a double-double for the Greyhounds with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Scouting the Greyhounds
• Loyola is finishing a three-game homestand to open the 2010-11 season, losing a 75-72 contest to Drexel before topping UMBC on Thursday night, 83-72.
• The Greyhounds never trailed during the final 25 minutes in the win over UMBC.
• Four players scored in double figures in the win, led by guard Dylon Cormier (no relation to Dartmouth head coach Paul Cormier) with 20.
• The other starting guard, Jamal Barney, leads the team in scoring at 17.5 ppg, mostly because he's taken more than twice as many shots as anyone else on the roster but at just a 37.1 percent clip.
• Barney also leads the team in rebounding at 7.5 per game, recording a double-double against UMBC with 14 points and 10 boards.
• Loyola is coached by Jimmy Patsos, who is 84-100 in six-plus years at the helm of Loyola. Patsos had been an assistant at Maryland for 13 years before taking over the Greyhounds, helping the Terrapins advance to the NCAA Tournament 11 straight years and to the Sweet Sixteen seven times during that time. Maryland also had consecutive trips to the Final Four, winning the NCAA Championship in 2002.
First Win of the Season
• Dartmouth defeated Hartford on Nov. 19, 71-57, to earn its first victory of the year and end a 16-game road losing skid that dated back to Feb. 21, 2009, a 66-63 win at Princeton.
• The Big Green led by double figures for the entire second half and shot 54.8 percent for the game, their best accuracy from the floor since ripping the nets at a 55.7 percent clip against Lyndon State last year on Dec. 13.
• With 10 three-pointers, Dartmouth hit double figures in threes made for the first time since draining 12 against Providence on Nov. 18, 2008.
• The tallest Big Green player on the court for the final 14 minutes of the contest was forward Mbiyimoh Ghogomu at 6-6.
• The victory was the first for Paul Cormier at Dartmouth since a 67-61 win over Columbia on Feb. 16, 1991, during his first stint as the head coach of the Big Green.
Connecticut Correction
The state of Connecticut had not been kind of late to the Dartmouth men's basketball team until a 71-57 victory at Hartford on Nov. 19. The Big Green ended a 16-game losing streak within the borders of the state with the previous win coming at Quinnipiac on Dec. 18, 2001 by a 70-68 final. Nine of those losses were to Yale, four to Quinnipiac, and three to Hartford.
Trotter with the Hot Hand
Of course, only if you believe in the hot hand, which strict statisticians do not. But there's no denying what junior Jabari Trotter has done to start the year, shooting 56.3 percent on field goals (18-of-32) as well as three-pointers (9-of-16). Against Hartford, he rarely missed while scoring a career-high 24 points, sinking 9-of-12 from the floor and 5-of-7 from long range. The field goals and three-pointers made were also career highs for the guard, which he had set during the first two games of his collegiate career.
