Livestats
A LOOK AT DARTMOUTH: The Big Green has shaken off a three-game losing streak by winning back-to-back games in similar fashion. The 2-1 victories over Harvard and New Hampshire were both won with two goals scored roughly a minute apart and with less than 20 minutes to play. Dartmouth started off with the 2-1 win over Harvard on Homecoming night, to the delight of a solid crowd at Burnham Field. Dartmouth dominated play, outshooting Harvard, 16-4, and got two second half goals just over a minute apart to come back from a 1-0 first-half deficit. Junior Nick Pappas (Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored on a header off a cross from Andrew Olsen (Norwell, Mass.) to tie the game at 1-1 in the 71st minute. Just over a minute later, Lucky Mkosana (Bulwayo, Zimbabwe) beat the Crimson backline all on his own and fired to the far post to put the Big Green up for good, 2-1. Against UNH on Tuesday, Dartmouth again overcame a 1-0 deficit when Mkosana scored in the 80th minute off a free kick and Daniel Keat (Wellington, New Zealand) got one off a cross from Andrew Olsen (Norwell, Mass.) 30 seconds later. Senior Lyman Missimer IV (The Woodlands, Texas) won both games in goal, making two saves in each.
Mkosana leads Dartmouth in scoring with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Keat ranks second with nine points (four goals, one assist) while Olsen has dished out a team-high four assists.
A LOOK AT CORNELL: The Big Red has lost its last four games, including a 1-0 loss to Ivy-leader Princeton last weekend and a 2-0 loss to Brown on Oct. 23. Cornell's last victory was a 2-0 win at Colgate on Oct. 12. Chase Aaronson is Cornell's leading scorer with eight points on three goals and two assists. Franck Onambele also has three goals on the season while Jimmy Lannon has tallied a team-high four assists and one goal. Rick Pflasterer has played all but one game in goal and sports a 0.94 goals against average.
ACADEMIC HONORS: Seniors Bryan Giudicelli (Emerald Hills, Calif.) and Andrew Olsen have been named to CoSIDA's Academic All-District first team. The teams are voted upon by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) in each of eight districts. Student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative gpa of 3.2 and are selected based on both their academic and athletic prowess. Giudicelli, a defender, is making his second appearance on the all-district first team and it is the second-straight season that Dartmouth has had two players make the team.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: For his efforts scoring the game-winner against Harvard, Lucky Mkosana was named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week. The junior has now scored in the Big Green's last two games and has gotten the scoring touch back after a mid-season drought.
RPI ROUNDUP: The Ivy League has once again shown its quality this fall, with three Ancient Eight teams ranking in the top 30 in the latest NCAA RPI index. Penn is the league's top team with an RPI of 19, followed closely by Brown (21) and Princeton (27). Those three teams are also ranked in the NSCAA Top-25 poll. Dartmouth finds itself at 59th in the RPI followed by Harvard at 74th
NCAA QUALITY HISTORY: The Big Green has played in the last three NCAA Tournaments, all on at-large bids. In 2008, Dartmouth and Penn tied for the Ivy Championship but the Big Green got the better of the Quakers come tournament time, earning the #16 national seed. Penn received the Ivy's automatic bid by virtue of its regular-season win over Dartmouth. After a first-round bye, Dartmouth advanced past Boston College on penalty kicks and ultimately lost to defending champ Wake Forest in the Sweet 16.
ASSAULTING THE RECORD BOOKS: Two current Dartmouth players have already inked their names on the program record books for scoring. Junior Lucky Mkosana should have his sights set on the career records for both goals and points as he was more than halfway to both marks after just two collegiate seasons. As of Nov. 5, Mkosana now has 23 career goals, which is tied for fifth and is 10 away from the record of 33, held by Bob Drawbaugh '54. He also has 55 career points, putting him fourth all-time and just 22 points away from Vladdy Stanojevic's '90 record of 77. Senior Daniel Keat currently has 50 career points, in sole possession of eighth place on the all-time list. With 20 career goals, Keat is tied for eighth all-time.
NEXT TIME OUT: The Big Green closes out the regular season at home on Burnham Field when it hosts Brown for a 4 p.m. start on Saturday, Nov. 13. Dartmouth will honor its nine seniors prior to the game.
