NEW HAVEN, CONN. — The Dartmouth women's volleyball team ran into a buzz saw on Friday at Yale. The Bulldogs came into the contest having won six straight matches and it continued against the Big Green with Yale winning 3-0. The loss drops Dartmouth to 13-9 overall and 4-7 in the conference. Yale improves to 15-7 overall and 9-2 in Ivy League play.
From the first serve everything went Yale's way. The team won the first four points in the set and never looked back, taking the first, 25-8. A fresh start in the second set didn't improve score with the Bulldogs cruising to a victory in the second, 25-10. The third set was more competitive with Dartmouth scoring more points, but in the end Yale was too strong, winning 25-17.
Sophomore Alissa Santa Maria (Yorba Linda, Calif.) recorded a double-double for Dartmouth with 13 assists and 11 kills. Junior Annie Villanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led the team with five kills.
Yale's Erica Reetz and Kendall Polan led all players with nine kills. Polan barely missed a triple-double. Besides the nine kills, she tallied 20 assists and 11 digs.
The Big Green will try to bounce back when they play at Brown on Saturday at 4 p.m.
