WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Dartmouth women's golf team improved eight strokes in the second round to finish the C&F Bank Intercollegiate in 16th place out of the 21 participating teams with a 339-331=670. Junior captain Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) led the Big Green in the second and final round with an 81 (+9) to equal her first-round performance for a team best 162 (+18).
Host William & Mary won its own tournament with a 308-304=612 (+36), finishing seven strokes ahead of Akron. Longwood came in third nine strokes back, while the first-round leader, St. John's, placed fourth 13 strokes off the pace. Longwood's Kameron Carter won individual medalist honors with a 73-73=146 (+2).
Gulemi's 162 put her in a tie for 30th among the 112 competitors. Just two strokes behind her was sophomore Heather Roland (Newton Square, Pa.) with an 80-84=164 (+20) to finish tied for 40th. Freshman Colleen Carroll (Bettendorf, iowa) had the second best Big Green round of the day with an 82, which combined with her first-round 90 gave her a 172 (+28) to tie for 72nd. Sophomore Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.) tied for 80th with a 90-84=174 (+30), and freshman Emily Hyman (Chappaqua, N.Y.) came in 90th with an 88-89=177 (+33) to complete the team's scoring.
Competing as individuals were sophomore Kathleen Quirk (Kansas City, Mo.) who tied for 87th with a 94-82=176 (+32) and freshman Julie Campbell (Bozeman, Mont.) who tied for 101st with a 97-90=187 (+43).
The women next play in Crystal Springs, Fla., in a tournament hosted by the University of Cincinnati next weekend.
