CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. — The Dartmouth women's golf team posted a solid 319 in the first round of the Cincinnati Spring Invitational on Friday, but followed that up with a 332 to finish the day at 75-over par in 16th place out of the 18 participating teams. Junior Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) is the low scorer thus far for the Big Green with an 80-78=158 (+14) on the day to be in a tie for 42nd.
Sophomore Kathleen Quirk (Kansas City, Mo.) matched Gulemi's first-round score of 80, then shot an 84 in the second round to end the day tied for 65th with a 164 (+20). Another sophomore, Heather Roland (Newton Square, Pa.), equaled Gulemi for the low round of the day, firing a six-over 78 in the first round and shot a 165 (+21) overall to tie for 69th with freshman Colleen Carroll (Bettendorf, Iowa) who went shot an 82 and 83 in her two rounds.
Rounding out the Big Green golfers was sophomore Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.) in a tie for 80th with an 81-87=168 (+24).
Dartmouth also had two freshmen participate as individuals in Julie Campbell (Bozeman, Mont.) and Emily Hyman (Chappaqua, N.Y.). The former shot an 87-89=176 (+32) to tie for 91st, while the latter posted an 87-90=177 (+33) to place 94th.
The University of Illinois currently leads the field with a 16-over 592, breaking 300 as a team in both rounds with a 299 and a 293. Six strokes back is Stetson with a 598.
Stetson's Alex Buelow has a two-stroke lead atop the leaderboard with a 72-69=141 (-3), with Hailey Koschmann of Illinois at one-under par with a 72-71=143.
The invitational will conclude on Saturday morning with the first tee times slated for 9 a.m.
