HANOVER, NH - The Dartmouth Sailing team returned from its trip to Old Dominion and ended up fifth at the Boston Dinghy Cup, which included many top conference teams that the Big Green will be facing all season long.
The Boston Dinghy Cup took place on the Charles River at MIT and unlike most races it featured three divisions. With the combined divisions, Dartmouth took fifth with 370 points, beating out conference foes South Florida and Hobart & Williams Smith.
The Big Green was in 10th place after Saturday' races, but had a great Sunday moving up to fifth place overall. The highlight of the weekend was Dartmouth's A division boat of sophomore Samuel Williams (Summit, N.J.) and senior Sarah Freihofer (Etna, N.H.), who finished third in their division, which is the best performance on their Big Green careers.
In the B Division, senior captain Matthew Cohen (Milford, Conn.) and Alexandra Hiller (Pennington, N.J.) finished eighth, while freshman Bo McClatchy and junior Jenna Musco (Hope, R.I.) ended up with an seventh spot finish.
“Overall, I thought the team did a great job of being consistent in each race despite the challenging shifty winds of the Charles River,” said co-head coach John Pearce.
In other races, Dartmouth finished 10th out of 16 teams at the Old Guard at Brown, fourth out of 11 teams at the Southern Series at Salve Regina, and defeated all five teams at the Team Race Series at Roger Williams to take first.
