HANOVER, N.H. - This past weekend, the Dartmouth sailing team competed at three regattas, highlighted by a win at the first round of the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship.
The Big Green scored 49 A Division points, the third lowest score, while
Sudi Zhao and
Olivia Drulard had an incredible performance in the B Division, scoring only 24 points to help Dartmouth to first place with 73 total points.
Across the 18 total races, the Big Green finished outside the top ten just twice. The A Division finished in the top ten in eight of their nine races, including a first-place finish to open racing on Saturday.
Zhao and Drulard in the B Division won over half their races, earning first place finishing positions in five of their nine total races. Three of the remaining four races were in the top ten, earning a fourth place and two second place finishing positions.
With the win, the Big Green advance to the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship in two weekends, on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12 hosted by MIT. Dartmouth will be joined by Georgetown, Tufts, Yale, Northeastern, URI, Penn, MIT, and Old Dominion as well as the top nine finishers from the other semifinal: Stanford, Cornell, Brown, Tulane, Bowdoin, College of Charleston, Harvard, Boston College, and Coast Guard.
Stanford won its semifinal with 61 total points, winning both the A Division (32 points) and the B Division (29 points).
In addition to the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship First Round, the Big Green competed at the Danmark Trophy and the Smith Trophy.
At the Danmark Trophy, hosted by Coast Guard, the Big Green finished 11
th with 234 total points, 85 in the A Division and 149 in the B Division. Dartmouth's 85 A Division points were fourth best in the regatta thanks to two first place finishes and two second place finishes.
The B Division also earned one first place finishing position in their sixth race.
Just under half of the Big Green's total races were in the top ten, as they collected 10 top ten finishing positions of their 22 races.
To round out the weekend, the Big Green sailed at the Smith Trophy hosted by MIT. Dartmouth finished 12
th overall with 147 total points.
The A Division posted 62 points while the B Division scored 85. The Big Green earned six top ten finishes across their 14 races, with their highest finish being fifth in the seventh A Division race.
The Big Green will return to action next weekend, competing at two regattas. Dartmouth will compete in the Open Atlantic Coast Championship first round hosted by Yale as well as the Stu Nelson Women's hosted by Connecticut College.
