By Jeff Friedman, Jaeger Civic Intern
Recently, the Women's Volleyball team went to David's House, a home to the children and parents of children who are receiving care at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital. They went to David's House and cooked a meal for the people staying there. The team cooked spaghetti with meat sauce, a big salad, and garlic bread. Jessie Hartman, an '11 on the volleyball team, said “It only took us a little over an hour to do the prep, cooking, and clean up, but we managed to pull off the meal just fine.” Hartman said that the team usually goes to David's House at least once a year and they always have a great experience. She continued that “The folks at David's House were (and always are) extremely grateful for our help, which makes the experience even more gratifying.” Amber Bryant, a '12 on the Volleyball team, said that she had a great time and stressed how great it was for their team to come together for a good cause. Bryant said, “We had so much fun together, we're all friends off the court, but it really felt good to do something food for someone else as a team.” Several other girls on the team stressed how it was similar to a match in that they used teamwork to make a delicious meal and give back to the Dartmouth community. Maddy Baird, a '12 on the Women's Volleyball team, said on their team's online blog site that "It was a really positive experience, to be able to transfer our teamwork from the volleyball court to giving back to the Dartmouth community."
The Dartmouth Women's Volleyball teams is excited to go back to David's House and continue to work together as a team, be it on the court or in the kitchen.
