SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Dartmouth women's volleyball team defeated Bryant on Tuesday night at the Chace Athletic Center, 3-1 (25-13, 20-25, 25-20, 25-18). The win helped the Big Green run its record to 7-0 on the season while snapping the Bulldogs five-game win streak as Kendall Houston (Austin, Texas) had Dartmouth's only double-double with a match-high 38 assists and 13 digs.
Defensively, a stellar outing from libero Amber Bryant (Libertyville, Ill.) – who amassed 40 digs in the four-game affair – paced the match. An impressive performance by Annie Villanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif.), who collected 17 kills on the day at a match-best .359 clip helped the Big Green take down the home team.
Dartmouth took advantage of a sluggish Bryant team (8-4) in the first set, taking the contest, 25-13, but the Bulldogs powered back to a Game 2 victory, 25-20, on the back of four kills and three blocks from Maria Scocca.
The Big Green kept up the blistering pace as Bryant couldn't stay with the bigger Dartmouth team, falling in the final two games, 25-20 and 25-18.
Jazmin Stoner's 15 kills were a team best for the Bulldogs, while Scocca chipped in 12 and 22 digs from senior Robyn Gardner led the home side defensively.Kelsey Johnson (Calsbad, Calif.) was tops at the net as she had six blocks to lead the visiting Big Green on the evening.
Dartmouth will return to the court this Friday and Saturday in the UNH Invitational, where the Big Green squares off with the host Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 before taking on Rutgers on Saturday, Sept. 18 and 10 a.m. and then Sacred Heart at 4:30.
