Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Dartmouth's Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
In a weekend filled with Big Green victories, it was no easy feat to earn Athlete of the Week honors, but Bryan Giudicelli and Kelly Hood ultimately stood out in the talented crowd.Giudicelli, a senior defender, scored the fourth game-winning goal of his career in a men's soccer win over #25 New Mexico while Hood, a junior, amassed seven points in a 2-0 week for field hockey.
Dartmouth Male Athlete of the Week
Bryan Giudicelli (Emerald Hills, Calif.), Men's Soccer, Senior, Defense
Giudicelli got the job done on both ends of the field in a
big 1-0 shutout of #25 New Mexico this Saturday. The senior anchored the back
line effort that shut down the Lobos, holding them to eight shots (three on
goal) including just three attempts in the second half. He also provided the
Big Green's only goal for the win in the 81st minute, connecting
with a header off a corner kick to put his team ahead for good. It marked his
seventh career goal and fourth game-winner and he is tied for the team lead with
two goals this fall.
Off the field, Giudicelli recently organized a team community service venture, running a soccer practice for the third and fourth grade teams at Thetford Elementary School. Read about that here.
Dartmouth Female Athlete of the Week:
Kelly Hood (Berlin, N.H.), Field Hockey, Junior, Forward
Hood tallied seven points on five goals and two assists to
lead the streaking field hockey team to two more victories on the season, improving
to 6-1 on the year. She recorded her second hat trick of the season on Saturday
as Dartmouth downed Brown, 4-2, to even its Ivy record at 1-1. All three of
Hood's goals versus the Bears came off penalty corners. On Sunday, Hood helped
Dartmouth to a 5-0 victory over Holy Cross with two goals and two assists in
the 5-0 victory. She assisted on the first two goals of the game and then
scored the last two off penalty corners. This is the third time Hood has been named the
DartmouthSports.com female athlete of the week.
