SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. –
The eighth ranked Dartmouth College women's squash team cruised to a
9-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday at the Mount Holyoke
Squash Courts. With their second win in a row, the Big Green improved
to 4-2 on the season as the Lyons saw their six match winning streak come
to a close and now have a 6-3 mark.
After dropping the first game of her number
four match, sophomore
Becky Lau (Toronto, Ont.) came back to top Shaheen Madraswala 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-9. Meanwhile, first
year Melina Turk (Winnipeg, Man.) downed Katrina Intal 11-8, 3-11, 12-10, 11-3 at the number five position.
Two
of the top 25 individually ranked players in the nation squared off in
the number one match. Representing Mount Holyoke was 25th ranked Randima Ranaweera as 5th ranked Valeria Wiens (Hanover, N.H.) was tops for Dartmouth. Wiens was successful, 11-8, 11-4, 11-8 coming from behind in the first and third games.
Dartmouth's
remaining wins came from Hannah Conant (Philadelphia, Pa.), Corey Schafer (Natick, Masas.), Kensy Balch (Edmonton, Alta.),
Julia Watson (Rocky Mount, N.C.), Katherine Nimmo (Wellesley, Mass.) and Heather Binnie (Rye, N.H.).
The Big Green is slated to host Trinity, Franklin & Marshall and Bates this weekend in a full weekend of matches.
Dartmouth will open its weekend against Trinity on Friday at 12:00
p.m. before facing off against Franklin & Marshall at 10
a.m. on Saturday before concluding with a match against Bates at 3 p.m. later that day.
