HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's squash team split on Saturday at the Berry Racquet Center as the Big Green picked up a 9-0 win over Amherst and fell to Yale, 6-2.
In the first match of the day, Dartmouth (3-2, 0-2 Ivy) had its first three spots earn wins but it was not enough as the Big Green dropped its second Ivy game of the season.
At No. 1 Valeria Wiens (Hanover, N.H.) was victorious in four games, winning the first two and bouncing back in the fourth. Hannah Conant (Philadelphia, Pa.) picked up the second win of the day at No. 2 in an unbelievable match against Sarah Toomey. Conant won the first 11-9 but the two then battled in the second as Toomey finally came away with a 21-19 win. Toomey then won the third, 11-7 but Conant rallied to take the fourth and fifth by the same 11-8 score.
At No. 3 Corey Schafer (Natick, Mass.) earned her third win of the season, going to four games against Alexandra Van Arkel.
Against Amherst in the second match of the day just one Big Green player had to go to four games before winning as Dartmouth dispatched Amherst easily, 9-0. Rebecca Lau (Toronto, Ont.) won the first, 11-8 but dropped her second, 10-12 before coming back to win 11-9 and 11-6.
The Big Green will be back in action Jan. 15 and 16 with matches against Trinity, Franklin & Marshall and Bates.
