In singles, the Big Green had five of its six singles competitors move on to the round of 32, including three upsets. Junior Xander Centenari (Towson, Md.), the fourth seed, defeated Roope Kailaheimo of Stony Brook, 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3. Centenari plays unseeded Tim Klanke of Brown on Sunday. The other seeded player for the Big Green, senior Michael Laser (Glencoe, Ill.) beat Erik Blumenkranc of Yale, 6-3, 6-3. In the round of 32, Laser takes on Akash Muppidi, the third seed, from Boston College.
Sophomore Brandon DeBot (Stevens Point, Wis.) scored the first upset for Dartmouth with a 6-2, 6-4, victory over Augie Bloom of Princeton. DeBot's test gets even tougher when he plays the top seed in the draw, Jonathan Pearlman of Harvard, on Sunday. Freshman Chris Kipouras needed three sets, including a third set tiebreaker, but upended Mike Hill, a ranked player from Brown, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6(5). Kipouras faces the seventh seed from St. John's, Milo Hauk, in the round of 32.
The final upset of the day for Dartmouth came when sophomore Cameron Ghorbani (Lexington, Mass.) won a third set tiebreaker to beat Wojtek Starakiewicz, a ranked player from Buffalo, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(4). Senior Chris Ho (Los Altos, Calif.) saw his tournament come to an end on Saturday in a 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-2 loss to 14th-seeded Matt Spindler of Princeton.
The Big Green had two of its three doubles team advance to the round of 16. The tournament's fifth seed, Centenari and Laser, defeated Joseph Dube and Joris Van Eck of Marist, 8-4. Centenari and Laser take on the ninth seed from Princeton in the next round. DeBot and Ghorbani upset Stefan Bojik and Vasko Mladenov, the ninth seed from St. John's, 9-8(2). The Dartmouth duo plays the eighth-seed from Harvard in the round of 16. The combo of junior Alex de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif.) and Kipouras lost to Alistair Felton and Casey MacMaster, the three seed from Harvard, 8-4.
