HANOVER, N.H. — Following a hat trick and an assist in the 5-4 win at Cornell on Friday, ECAC Hockey named Dartmouth sophomore Ali Winkel (Espanola, Ontario) the Player of the Week.
The forward was an integral part of the upset victory over then-second-ranked Cornell. Winkel scored three of the Big Green's five goals and assisted on a fourth. She also netted the game-winning goal four minutes into the third period.
The contest marked a variety of career firsts for the Espanola native. She recorded her first career hat trick, first career multi-point name, first game-winning goal and first and second career power play goals. Winkel more than doubled her career point total in the game. She entered the contest with three career points on one goal and two assists and left Lynah Rink with seven career points on four goals and three assists. It was the first hat trick by a Dartmouth player since junior Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Quebec) had three goals and an assist in a 6-0 victory at Brown on Jan. 29, 2011.
Winkel is the third Dartmouth player to be honored by ECAC Hockey this season. Senior Kelly Foley (South Boston, Mass.) garnered the Player of the Week honor on Oct. 25 and sophomore Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was named Goaltender of the Week on Nov. 1.
The Big Green return home this weekend when they host St. Lawrence on Friday at 7 p.m. and Clarkson on Saturday at 4 p.m. Dartmouth won at the Saints on Oct. 29, 1-0, and played the Golden Knights to a 2-2 draw on Oct. 28.
