POTSDAM, N.Y. - For the second time in two weeks, the Dartmouth men's hockey team was unable to find the back of the net against an ECAC Hockey opponent as Clarkson defeated the Big Green (4-4, 3-3 ECAC Hockey), 4-0, Saturday night at Cheel Arena.
Senior goaltender
Jody O'Neill (Nepean, Ontario) got the start in goal for the second night in a row and made 27 saves for the Big Green. Clarkson's Paul Karpowich turned aside 37 shots in recording his third shutout of the season to help the Golden Knights (7-4-3, 2-3-1 ECAC Hockey) to the league win.
Clarkson's captain Jake Morley scored his first of the season 9:23 into the first on a redirect that found its way through O'Neill.
A flurry of offensive action saw both goaltenders with 16 saves in the first period, with just the one goal scored.
Despite a combined six power plays in the second period, neither team was able to get its offense clicking as Allan McPherson's even-strength goal was the only tally for either club in the middle frame.
Morely redirected another and picked up his second of the night 10:35 into the third period to give his team the 3-0 advantage.
An empty-net goal from Adam Pawlick made it a four-goal lead with 54 seconds left on the clock. The empty-netter wrapped up the scoring and handed the Big Green a split on their first road trip of the season after a 3-1 win at St. Lawrence Friday night.
Dartmouth was 0-for-5 on the power play as a result of a very stingy Clarkson defense in front of a loud and supportive home crowd. The Golden Knights were also 0-for-5 in the game on the power play as the Big Green cleared several pucks away from the low slot and scoring chances while playing down a man.
Dartmouth will be back in action at Thompson Arena Friday, Nov. 25 as it plays host to Harvard at 7 p.m. After a one-day break, the Big Green will then head to Burlington, Vt., to take on former ECAC Hockey foe Vermont in a Sunday afternoon matchup.
