During their annual Thanksgiving training trip to Colorado, the Men's Alpine Ski team was able to get in some valuable time on the slopes and find a way to give back to the community. The Etna, NH based Ford Sayre Ski Club was visiting Loveland, Colorado at the same time as the Dartmouth Skiers for their own training trip. To captains Trevor Leafe '12 and Luke McLaughry '12, the presence of a local group of youngsters was a great opportunity to lend a helping hand.
After a long day of training, the Dartmouth Skiers met up with the 10-12 year olds from Ford Sayre Ski Club to take them for a fun free ski and a little bit of technique coaching for the young racers. The kids were split up into groups of 3-5 with 2 Dartmouth skiers to each group. According to Leafe, “Coaching and skiing with the kids was a great way for us to unwind after a long day on the hill and use our talents to help others”.
The Ski Team hopes to build on their fall training to have a successful carnival season this winter.
