Men's Track Starts Season at Shamrock Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Dartmouth men's outdoor track and field team opened its season this weekend at the Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Big Green did not send a full squad, but finished strong in the field events.

In the javelin, senior Daniel Ostrovsky (Wellesley, Mass.) finished second with a throw of 63.51 meters (208-04.00 feet) and freshman Jim Budzinski (Yardley, Pa.) finished third at 63.37 meters (207-11.00 feet) The throw by Ostrovsky was the third-best mark in the history of Dartmouth.

Two Dartmouth competitors placed in three throwing events. Senior David Irving (Manchester, N.H.) took third in the hammer throw (58.67 meters), tied for fifth in the discus (45.92 meters) and placed fifth in the shot put (15.54 meters). Freshman Dom Filiano (Lebanon, N.H.) finished ninth in the hammer throw (51.31 meters), took seventh in the discus (45.04 meters) and took fourth in the shot put (15.60 meters).

The Big Green next compete at the Raleigh Relays next weekend.
