Winthrop scored four runs in the top of the first inning and held off Dartmouth over the final six to snap a six-game losing streak.
Singles up the middle by Hillary Hubert (Grant Park, Ill.) and Molly Khalill (Seal Beach, Calif.) had the Big Green with runners on early but a ground out ended the inning. In the bottom half of the frame the Eagles got going with a bunt followed by single to third base as the advancing runner moved to third the throw. A stolen base put both runners in scoring position for Ashleigh Jackson who singled back to the pitcher to load the bases. Brittany Stoudemire got Winthrop on the board with a two-run single before a walk loaded the bases. Another single, this time to left gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead. A sacrifice fly to left field made it, 4-0 as that proved to be the game-winning run.
In the third the Big Green got one back when Audrey Kolodziej (Morton Grove, Ill.) doubled to left field and came around on a Hubert single to center. Two runs in the fourth gave Dartmouth some life as Noelle Ramirez (Pompton Plains, N.J.) led off with a double to right field before Katie Adams (Kent, Wash.) blasted her first career home run to plate both.
In the sixth inning, Dartmouth had runners on but was unable to bring them around.
For Winthrop, Chelsey Schoenfeldt earned the win and is now 2-4 after allowing three runs on seven hits with no walks and two strikeouts in five innings. In the circle for the Big Green Evan Gray (Edmond, Okla.) went the complete game with four earned runs and four strikeouts.
Dartmouth will be back in action on Thursday with a double-header at Stetson beginning at 4 p.m.
