HANOVER, N.H. — Once again, Dartmouth qualified the maximum number of participants for the NCAA Men's and Women's Skiing Championships — which will be broadcast live over the internet — to be held just up the road on March 9-12 in Stowe, Vt., with 12 Big Green skiers competing. Headlining the list of qualifiers are senior All-Americans Rosie Brennan (women's cross country) and Courtney Hammond (women's alpine), as well as junior Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) champion Eric Packer (men's cross country).
Brennan is ranked third among the NCAA qualifiers from the EISA, having finished among the top five in seven of her eight individual races this winter, and earned All-America status in both the freestyle and classical races last year at the NCAA Championships. Hammond is also ranked third among the women's alpine skiers and second in the giant slalom, in which the senior co-captain earned second team All-America honors last year.
Packer is the top-ranked EISA cross country skier as he leads a strong corps for the men which includes sophomore Sam Tarling (2nd) and senior Nils Koons (4th). At the EISA Championships two weeks ago, Packer won both the freestyle and classical races.
The full Dartmouth NCAA team includes:
Peter Ankeny (alpine, junior, Wayzata, Minn.)
Rosie Brennan (cross country, senior, Park City, Utah)
Sophie Caldwell (cross country, junior, Peru, Vt.)
Evan Diamond (alpine, sophomore, Cheshire, Conn.)
Erika Flowers (cross country, junior, Bozeman, Mont.)
Erin Fucigna (alpine, junior, Hopkinton, Mass.)
Courtney Hammond (alpine, senior, Mercer Island, Wash.)
Nils Koons (cross counry, senior, Sidney, Maine)
Trevor Leafe (alpine, junior, Monroe, N.H.)
Eric Packer (cross country, junior, Anchorage, Alaska)
Annie Rendall (alpine, sophomore, South Burlington, Vt.)
Sam Tarling (cross country, sophomore, Cumberland, Maine)
The
Big Green finished second at the EISA Championships last weekend,
ending a streak of four straight titles. Since 1954, Dartmouth has won
three NCAA Skiing team
championships, including the 2007 title; 34 individual NCAA champions
have worn the Dartmouth Ski Team snowflake.
