BARRINGTON, R.I. — The Dartmouth women's golf team improved by 16 strokes from Sunday's first round of the Brown Invitational at Rhode Island Country Club, finishing the 13-team invitational in ninth place with a 329-313—642. Freshman
Sarah Knapp (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) paced the Big Green squad with a nine-over 153 in a tie for 18th place, thanks to scoring an even-par 72 on Monday.
Princeton took home the team title with a two-round score of 589 (+13), eight strokes ahead of Harvard. Medalist honors went to Harin Lee of St. John's, who bested the field by a whopping eight strokes with a 69-68—137 (-7).
Knapp wasn't the only Dartmouth participant to shave strokes in the final round. Junior
Heather Roland (Newtown Square, Pa.) knocked off one stroke from the first day of competition, completed the tournament with a 159 (+15), while senior
Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) lopped off three strokes to tie for 43rd with a 163 (+19).
While sophomore
Colleen Carroll (Bettendorf, Iowa) posted nearly idential scores of 85-86 to tie for 60th, fellow sophomore
Julie Campbell (Bozeman, Mont.) rebounded from a tough first round to drop 11 strokes today to shoot a 175 and tie for 66th place.
Competing as an individual was junior
Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.), who was tied for sixth after the first day with a two-over 74, but fell back into a tie for 29th with a 157. Other Big Green golfers that teed up as individuals were sophomore
Emily Hyman (Chappaqua, N.Y.), junior
Kathleen Quirk (Kansas City, Mo.) and freshman
Evan Sterneck (Leawood, Kan.).
The women will complete their spring season in two weeks at the Ivy Championships, held at the Atlantic City Country Club on April 22-24.
