DURHAM, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's track and field team had nine first-place finishes at the UNH Invitational on Saturday.
The event the Big Green dominated the most was the 1500 meters. The team took the top six spots and seven of the top eight. Freshman Arianna Vailas (Manchester, N.H.) placed first at 4:29.39, freshman Abbey D'Agostino (Topsfield, Mass.) finished right behind Vailas at 4:29.39, junior Christina Supino (Windham, N.H.) crossed the finish line third at 4:33.02, senior Andrea Imhof (San Fransisco, Calif.) was fourth at 4:33.32, freshman Monica Adler (Manchester, Mass.) took fifth at 4:34.52 and freshman Katelyn Walker (Shaker Heights, Ohio) was sixth at 4:37.33. Both Vailas and D'Agostino qualified for ECAC's.
In the 800 meters, the Big Green took four of the top six spots. Sophomore Caroline Buck (Winter Park, Fla.) placed second at 2:18.36, sophomore Christine Bub (Strykersville, N.Y.) finished third at 2:18.91, freshman Claire Arthur (Lincoln, Mass.) crossed the finish line fifth at 2:22.19 and sophomore Kaitlyn D'Orazio (York, Maine) took sixth at 2:23.63. In the 3000-meter steeplechase, junior Alexi Pappas (Alameda, Calif.) crossed the finish line first at 11:12.42.
Senior Alex Tanner (Baltimore, Md.) finished first in the 400 meters at 56.44. In the 400 hurdles, Dartmouth took the top two spots. Freshman Megan Krumpoch (Shrewsbury, Mass.) placed first at 1:03.29, and sophomore Olivia Durr (Boyds, Md.) finished second at 1:05.78. The 4x100 relay team took first at 49.03. The quartet consisted of freshman Janae Dunchack (Northern Cambria, Pa.), junior Malina Simmers (Anchorage, Alaska), junior Kristina Black (Skokie, Ill.) and Tanner. The combo of senior Kaleigh Wood (Shortsville, N.Y.), Krumpock, Supino and Tanner took the top spot in the 4x400 relay.
Dartmouth found similar success in the field events. Sophomore Cara Vernacchia (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) finished in the top three in two events. She took the top spot in the long jump at 5.42 meters (17-09.50 feet) and finished third in the high jump at 1.62 meters (5-03.75 feet). In the pole vault, sophomore Karla Verkouw (Lancaster, Pa.) was third with a mark of 3.27 meters (10-08.75 feet).
In the throwing events, the Big Green finished one-two in the shot put. Senior Christina Alexander (Austin, Texas) finished first with a throw of 12.80 meters (42-00.00 feet) and freshman Corinne Kominkiewicz (East Brunswick, N.J.) took second at 12.53 meters (41-01.50 feet). The Big Green also finished one-two in the discus. Alexander won the event at 42.08 meters (138-01.00 feet) and Kominkiewicz finished second at 41.40 meters (135-10.00 feet). Alexander finished third in the hammer throw at 46.22 meters (151-08.00 feet).
Dartmouth hosts Vermont and Middlebury on Sunday, April 17 at 11 a.m.
