HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth is well-represented in this spring's Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association awards, with three rowers named All-New England, nine named scholar athletes and head coach Wendy Levash tabbed New England Coach of the Year.
From the varsity eight, senior captain Emily Dreissigacker (Morrisville, Vt.) and junior Hayley Daniell (Hopkinton, N.H.) were both named to the All-New England first team and senior Katherine Roddy (Knoxville, Tenn.) was named to the second team.
Dreissigacker, who rows in the eight-seat, is no stranger to these accolades, earning All-New England first team honors for the third consecutive season. She has also been named a CRCA All-America in the past two seasons, though this year's honorees have yet to be announced. Daniell, who rows in the two-seat and Roddy, the seven-seat, are each making their All-New England debut. Both were also among the nine Dartmouth athletes named to the CRCA Scholar Athlete squad.
To be eligible for scholar athlete status, student-athletes must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher and have rowed in the team's championship-eligible boats for 75 percent of the season or in a regional event.
In addition to Daniell and Roddy, the following Dartmouth rowers were honored: Allison Armstrong (Wellesley, Mass.), Sarah Cohan (Marlborough, Mass.), Anna Dobbin (Rochester, N.Y.), Hayley Jansson (Wichita, Kan.), Sarah Kler (Eugene, Ore.), Gabrielle Mezochow (Merion, Pa.) and Sarah Rutter (N. Andover, Mass).
Levash brought home New England Coach of the Year honors after leading the Big Green to its best results at Eastern Sprints since 1997 — a third-place finish for the varsity eight and fourth place for the second varsity eight — and a bid to this weekend's NCAA Championships. The award is intended to recognize head coaches who have achieved excellence among the following criteria: outstanding success during the current season, team improvement from prior season, fulfilled team's potential and demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as a coach.
A former Princeton captain, Levash has been successful at every stage of her career from her work as a novice coach at Cornell and with the Tigers at her alma mater, to Dartmouth where she is in her sixth season as head coach. Levash has led the Big Green to NCAA Championship bids three times since 2007.
Dartmouth heads west to Sacramento, Calif. this weekend to compete in the NCAA Championships at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center from May 27-29.
