HANOVER, N.H. — Elizabeth C. McNabb Head Coach of Women's Rowing
John Graves has announced the hiring of Gordon Getsinger as associate head coach on Friday. Getsinger joins the Big Green after successful stints at the University of Washington and Saugatuck Rowing Club.
Getsinger comes to Dartmouth following a standout tenure as an assistant coach with the Washington Huskies, one of the premier rowing programs in the nation. While in Seattle, Gordon served as the lead recruiter and played a key role in developing crews that consistently won medals at Conference and National Championships. Getsinger most recently coached the Washington second varsity eight that won a gold medal at the Big 10 Conference Championship and a silver medal at the 2025 NCAA National Championship. Those performances were key in helping Washington win the 2025 Big 10 Team Championship and earn a fourth-place team finish at the NCAA National Championship.
"I am honored to join the Dartmouth women's rowing program and grateful to
John Graves and the Dartmouth leadership for believing in me," said Getsinger. "I am excited to work alongside an extraordinary coaching staff and with the talented women of Dartmouth Rowing. My wife, Carly and I could not be more thrilled to raise our three daughters here in the Upper Valley and become part of this incredible community."
Before Washington, Getsinger made his mark on the national scene as head coach of the junior women at Saugatuck Rowing Club
. From 2014 to 2019, Getsinger's crews enjoyed an impressive string of success winning the youth women's eight at the Head of the Charles and Youth National Championships five consecutive years. Under his leadership, Saugatuck athletes not only dominated domestic competition, but also went on to represent the United States on the international stage. His success in athlete development and program culture helped cement Saugatuck as one of the most successful junior programs in the country.
On the international stage, Getsinger has also shown the ability help crews make it to the podium. He has coached on the both the Junior and U23 National Team levels, most notably helping the U23 women's pair win a silver medal at the 2021 U23 World Championships.
Getsinger joins Dartmouth at a moment of momentum for the Big Green. In just year two under Graves, the program made significant strides, including a fourth-place finish in the varsity eight at Ivy League Championships and securing qualification for the 2025 NCAA Championship—the program's first appearance since 2011. With Getsinger on staff, Dartmouth is poised to continue its rise on the national stage.
"First, I'd like to give a very warm welcome to Gordon, his wife Carly and his three daughters Eloise, Lyla, and Heidi," said Graves. "There's no doubt in my mind that Gordon's on-water coaching ability will have a positive impact on our team's speed on day one; however, it's his track record of program building, holistic athlete development and genuine care for his athletes that make him someone I am so excited to collaborate with.
"This team is hungry to continue ascending the national ranks and I think Gordon has what it takes to help them take another big step," Graves continued. "This is someone who has won medals wherever he has coached, and I am eager for him to continue that trend here at Dartmouth. I feel incredibly grateful to have Gordon and Eileen on board and can't wait to get to work writing the next chapter of the program together."
The Big Green finished the 2025 season as the 16th ranked team in the country and will look to build upon last year's momentum at their fall opener vs. Brown at the Gardner Cup on October 4.
