BOSTON - Friday at Boston University's Terrier Invitational was dominated by the women's races, while Saturday's meet was primarily focused on the competition between some of the best men's teams in the northeast. The annual meet was held at BU's Track and Tennis Center and included not only college teams, but also local clubs and unattached participants.
The highlight of the meet for the Dartmouth men's indoor track & field team was a second-place showing from freshman Sam Yoder (North Attleboro, Mass.) in the high jump. Yoder cleared 6-6.75/2.00m on his third try. Jeremy Birck (Libertyville, Ill.) was listed in third with the same height cleared as Yoder after needing three attempts to clear the previous height of 1.95m.
Luke Decker (Mission Viejo, Calif.) was fifth in the 1,000 meters. Decker led the Big Green with a 2:29.69 finish. Joining Decker in the event was Rex Woodbury (Tucson, Ariz.), who placed 24th in 2:35.72.
Connor Reilly (Niskayuna, N.Y.) took sixth in the finals of the 60-meter dash in 6.97 after qualifying seventh in 6.95.
John Bleday (Westwood, Mass.) ran to a sixth-place finish in the mile, crossing in 4:04.02. The field of more than 140 runners also saw Dartmouth's Will Geoghegan (Brunswick, Maine) take 19th in 4:13.59.
In an extremely competitive 3000 meters, senior Ethan Shaw (Falmouth, Maine) led the Dartmouth contingent of four runners with an 18th-place finish in 8:15.55.
Sophomore Dom Filiano (Lebanon, N.H.) earned seventh in the shot put with a throw of 51-10.0/15.80m. Filiano's seventh-place showing in the event came in a field of more than 50 competitors. Filiano also placed 20th in the weight throw with a distance of 47-1.00/14.35m.
Josh Cyphers (Grantham, N.H.) and Brett Gilson (Richboro, Pa.) tied for seven in the pole vault as both cleared 14-5.25/4.40m on Saturday. Cyphers earned the mark on his first attempt at the height, while Gilson was able to record the height on his third and final try.
The Dartmouth 4x400-meter relay team narrowly edged out Yale in its section by just three-hundredths of a second, 3:19.14 to the Bulldogs' 3:19.17. The quartet representing the Big Green in the race were Jalil Bishop (Twinsburg, Ohio), Joseph Woiwode (Rockville, Md.), Kevin Crowley (Barrington, Ill.) and Evan Bryant (Baltimore, Md.).
In the 5000 meters, Adam Doherty (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) led the way for the Big Green, finishing in 14:21.72 to earn 10th. Jon Gault (Bedford, Mass.) was not too far back, taking 12th in 14:27.09.
Dartmouth returns to action next Friday in New York City with the Collegiate Invitational.
