HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's and women's indoor track & field teams open the season with the program's signature event this weekend as Leverone Field House plays host to the Dartmouth Relays.
The three-day event begins Friday afternoon and continues through Sunday. High school events highlight the first two days of competition before Dartmouth and the other collegiate competitors take to the track and infield area on Sunday morning.
The 43rd annual installment of the Dartmouth Relays will feature college teams from Keene State, Holy Cross, Boston College, McGill, Tufts, Middlebury, UMass-Boston and UMass Lowell.
Sunday will also have several of the top clubs in the region running as teams from the Boston Athletic Association, New Balance Boston and the Greater Boston Track Club will be just three of the clubs competing at Leverone.
Roughly 200 high schools and prep schools will comprise the field on the first two days of competition.
One former Dartmouth runner coming back for the weekend will be Erin Dromgoole '01. The former cross country standout and All-American (2000) will be back as a part of the contingent from New Balance Boston.
The Dartmouth women should see some of its top performances from Alexi Pappas (Alameda, Calif.) and Christina Supino (Windham, N.H.) in the mile, Cathy Liebowitz (Plainfield, N.H.) in the throwing events, and the trio of Arianna Vailas (Manchester, N.H.), Meggie Donovan (Auburn, N.H.) and Kaitlyn D'Orazio (York, Maine) in the 800 meters.
Sophomores Dom Filiano (Lebanon, N.H.) and Josh Cyphers (Grantham, N.H.) of the men's team, along with Leibowitz of the women's squad all attended Lebanon High School and have participated in this event for several years.
Two former high school standouts at this meet will be making their debut in the Dartmouth Green. Brett Buskey (Blackstone, Mass.) and Sam Yoder (North Attleboro, Mass.) won the 60 meters and high jumps at the Dartmouth Relays during their high school careers before enrolling at the College.
Expect senior Matt Miner (Ashland, Ore.) to run well for the Big Green in the men's mile, while sophomore Megan Krumpoch (Shrewsbury, Mass.) of the women's team will be looked to in both the 400 meters and 60-meter hurdles on Sunday for the home team.
Coming back from a knee injury sustained last year to compete in the 2012 event is junior thrower Emmaline Berg (Holliston, Mass.). The resurgence of junior Connor Reilly (Niskayuna, N.Y.) in the 60 meters for the men's team will also be one of the storylines to follow.
Men's head coach Barry Harwick and women's head coach Sandy Ford-Centonze expect a strong weekend of competition from their squads. Harwick commented in the days leading up to the meet that the addition of the Canadian schools and club teams will add a good amount of depth and talent to an already solid grouping of teams attending.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at Leverone on the day of competition or at the Dartmouth Ticket Office located in Leede Arena. Ticket prices are $5 for students and $8 for adults. Dartmouth students can enter for free with their ID.
