SUNDAY'S GAME
After back-to-back home wins over Yale and Vermont, the Big
Green will return to the road Sunday, travelling to New York City for a noon
contest with Columbia. Both teams have identical 8-5 overall and 3-1 Ivy League
records and are tied for second in the conference standings.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
Dartmouth and Columbia as well as Cornell are the three
teams in the midst of a logjam for second in the league standings. With the
Lions and Big Green playing on Sunday, one will drop out of that tie. The Big
Red have a road game with last-place Brown on their schedule Saturday at noon.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Columbia has split wins and losses in it last six games. Its
last outing saw the Lions drop a 1-0 game to No. 15 Drexel on a goal scored
just eight minutes into the first half. The team's last Ivy League matchup was
a tightly-contested meeting with Penn in Philadelphia, resulting in a 3-2
overtime victory for the visitors. Gabby Kozlowski leads the team with 20
points and nine goals, while Liz Malone is just behind with eight goals and 17
points. The Lions have used four goalkeepers this fall, but it has been
Christie O'Hara playing the majority of the time (2.39 GAA, .759 Save%, 7-4-0).
LAST TIME AGAINST
COLUMBIA
These two teams last played on Oct. 22, 2011 in Hanover with
the Lions coming out on top, 4-2. Ali Savage and Sam Anderson both scored
goals, but three first-half goals by Columbia proved to be the difference in
the game. Like this year, the 2011 meeting featured both teams tied in the
standings with 3-1 Ivy League records. Dartmouth was 8-5 entering that game as
well.
SAVAGE SCORES... AGAIN
Sophomore Ali Savage continues her mid-season scoring touch.
Just days after scoring twice in a 4-3 win against Yale to earn Ivy League Player
of the Week honors, the second-year forward scored four more times against
Vermont on Wednesday afternoon. The four goals were a new career high, besting
her previous mark of a hat trick against Bryant her freshman season.
JOIN THE FUN
Junior Sam Anderson and freshman Brooke Van Valkenburg added
to Dartmouth's scoring totals with goals against the Catamounts. Anderson is
now third on the team with five, while Van Valkenburg's tally was her third of
the year.
TAG TEAM
The goalkeeping duo of senior Jenna Stearns and Ellen Meyer
continue to do well for the Big Green in 2012. The tandem split time once again
on Wednesday. Stearns started and made one stop in the first half, while Meyer
came in for the second 35 minutes of action, making four saves.
JUMPED
For the first time since opening day, senior co-captain Lisa Masini is not atop the statistical leaderboard for her team. Savage's four-goal
outburst helped propel her to the top of both goals (9) and points (21). Masini
is by no means slacking in her offensive output, though. The midfielder ranks
second in points (18) and goals (7), while leading in assists (4). Her seven
goals this season are a new career best and are just two shy of her combined
total from the previous three seasons.
LOOKING AHEAD
Following Sunday's game, Dartmouth will be back in action
next Saturday (Oct. 27) when it hosts Harvard at 1 p.m. The game marks the 2012
home finale and will feature a Senior Day Ceremony immediately following the
game, honoring Masini, Stearns, Maya Herm, Samantha McPherson and Liz Blanken
for their dedication to the team over the course of the last four years.
