January 2012 - Project Right Choice
By Matt Oatway, Jaeger Civic Intern
When she's not helping break school records on the golf course, Women's Golf Captain Marietta Smith '12 is giving back to communities in need through her work with student founded and run nonprofit Project RightChoice. At Project RightChoice, Marietta wears many hats, from helping raise money, to designing graphics, recruiting new members, spreading awareness, and much more. Marietta is currently the chair of the group's Leadership Initiative that seeks to organize presentations by prominent leaders in a variety of industries. Since its founding in 2009, Marietta has helped the group grow and establish itself as one of the most successful fundraising groups on campus.
Project RightChoice is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded by Dartmouth Students. Each year, the student members of Project RightChoice select a worthwhile cause as well as a specific benefitting charity. Throughout the year, Project RightChoice members organize different events and host fundraisers to raise awareness and funds for their annual charity, such as a raffle at an on-campus Cinco de Mayo themed party and a benefit auction each Fall in Boston.
Throughout 2011, Marietta helped Project RightChoice raise money for Water.org, a nonprofit dedicated to transforming communities in the developing world by providing access to clean drinking water. Most recently, Marietta and the Project RightChoice team hosted a benefit auction in Boston where they raised over $70,000 for Water.org through ticket sales, donations, and auction items including a barbeque catered by the Project RightChoice team or a round of golf at the Hanover Country Club.
