HANOVER, N.H. - A
pair of seniors on the Dartmouth men's hockey team have been honored by the Ivy
League for their play during the 2011-12 season. Defenseman Connor Goggin (Glen
Ellyn, Ill.) earned a spot on the All-Ivy Second Team, while forward Doug Jones
(Marietta, Ga.) was named honorable mention.
Goggin was one of three defenders on the second team thanks to a tie in
voting. The assistant captain was
recognized by the league's head coaches for his strong final season in Hanover,
scoring a career-high five goals and adding nine assists in 28 games.
Goggin was second on the team in game-winning goals this year with two, including Friday's winner against Clarkson midway through the third period. His +5 rating ranked fifth among all Big Green players and second among defensemen.
Jones was tabbed as an All-Ivy Honorable Mention
player
after a senior season that saw the Marietta, Ga., native tie for the team lead
in scoring with 23 points. His nine goals were a new career high, while his 14
assists ranked second on the team.
An assistant captain, Jones became the 36th player in program history to reach
the 100-point mark for his career with a goal against Yale on Feb. 17. His
78-career assists rank eighth all-time at Dartmouth.
Yale's Brian O'Neill was named the Ivy League player of the Year, while Brian Ferlin of Cornell was tabbed as the league's Rookie of the Year.
No. 9 Dartmouth and No. 8 St. Lawrence open the 2012 ECAC Hockey Tournament first round with Game 1 Friday night from Appleton Arena in Canton, N.Y., at 7 p.m.
