Big Green Tennis Advances Two Players to Final 16 of Singles

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Dartmouth men's tennis returned to the courts of the Billie Jean King National Center for the second day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships on Saturday, yielding impressive results. Freshman Ciro Riccardi and junior Dovydas Sakinis both won their third round singles matches to advance to the Round of 16.

“We played a high level of tennis in some of the singles matches today,” assistant coach Tom Boysen said. “While it is great that Ciro and Dovydas will represent Dartmouth tomorrow in the final 16, I am even more pleased that they played at such a high level today while still implementing the changes that we have made in their games. Their willingness to see the bigger picture is no doubt having a positive effect in their tennis and in their results."

In the second round of singles, Riccardi defeated Andrew Ball from Harvard by a score of 6-2, 6-2 to move on to the third round, where he bested St. John's R.J. Del Nunzio, 6-4, 7-6. Sakinis had a tougher second round match, winning the first set against Daniel Faireman of Yale, 6-1, before dropping the next, 4-6. He came back to win the final set, 6-2. In the third round, he had an easy 6-4, 6-2 victory over Michael-John Every of St. John's.

Also playing in the second round was senior Chris Kipouras, who had to play Vadik Munshaw of St. John's to three sets, but ultimately won, 6-4, 6-7, 7-5. His dropped his third round set to his opponent from Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Max Fliegner also picked up a win over Dylan Brown of Cornell in the back draw, 6-2, 7-6.

“As always, these tournaments and matches provide excellent opportunities for our players to learn and grow as competitors,” Boysen said. “We continue to stress development and our process as we play in these fall events.”

The Big Green will return to action tomorrow morning.

Alvarez (Buffalo) defeated Pedraza (Dartmouth), 6-2, 3-6, 6-4
