Dartmouth Looks to Stay Atop Ivy Standings Sunday at Columbia

SUNDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth field hockey team is back in action Sunday afternoon after a week away from competition. The Big Green travel to the City that Never Sleeps to take on Columbia at noon in an Ivy League contest with the Lions.

LAST TIME OUT
The Green and White dropped a 1-0 game last Sunday at UMass Lowell a day after taking down Yale, 4-2, in an Ancient Eight contest in Hanover as part of Homecoming Weekend.

TOP OF THE CLASS
With the victory against the Bulldogs, Amy Fowler (2000-present) became Dartmouth's all-time winningest coach in the field hockey program's history. Fowler is now the owner of 127 career wins on the Green's sideline, moving past Mary Corrigan (1975-92). Just the fourth coach in the 43-year history of the program, Fowler's 15 years as bench boss are three fewer than Corrigan's 18 for the most all-time, while also joining Aggie Kurtz (1972-74) and Julie Dayton (1993-99) on the list.

SCOUTING COLUMBIA
The Lions enter the weekend with a 10-4 overall record and a 3-1 league mark. Junior Christina Freibott is one of the nation's top scorers this season, leading all DI players with 1.36 assists per game and all Ivy Leaguers with 19 — 10 more than any other individual. Her 33 points are also tops among all Ivy players this fall, while Zoe Blake's 54 shots are also a conference-best figure. In goal, it's been a healthy dose of Kimberly Pianucci this season for Columbia as the junior keeper has played nearly 800 minutes, posting a 2.19 goals against average and a .709 save percentage en route to a 9-4 record.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE LIONS
These two teams met last season in Hanover with the home team coming away with a resounding 6-2 win. Then-junior Ali Savage recorded her fourth hat trick of the season and Dartmouth scored five times in the second half to come away with the lopsided victory. Olivia Quaglia '14 also chipped in with a pair of tallies for the first two-goal game of her career.

RECOGNITION
For her play against Holy Cross (W, 5-4/OT), Yale (W, 4-2) and UMass Lowell (L, 1-0), senior Ellen Meyer was tabbed as the DartmouthSports.com Female Athlete of the Week.

MOVIN' ON UP
With her two goals against Yale, senior Ali Savage moved into a tie for second place all-time at Dartmouth with 47 in a career. The Australian native is now tied with Lauren Welsh '03 and is just three goals shy of becoming just the second player in program history to score more than 50 goals in a career (Kelly Hood '12 – 58).

TIED AT THE TOP!
With four games played in the Ivy League schedule, a quartet of teams sit tied atop the league standings. Dartmouth's 3-1 Ancient Eight record has it sharing the top spot with Sunday's opponent in Columbia as well as Cornell (Nov. 8) and Princeton (L, 4-0), The Big Green still have conference games remaining with the Lions, at home against Harvard (Nov. 1) and in Ithaca (Nov. 8).

TACK IT ON
In addition to the two goals Savage scored, Dartmouth got markers from junior Eliza Becker and sophomore Joanne Nazareth against the Elis last weekend. Becker made it a 3-0 game in the 45th minute, while Nazareth tacked on the fourth and final goal to make it 4-1 in favor of the home team in the 51st.

WHAT'S AHEAD?
After this weekend, the Big Green will return to the Granite State for a pair of games the first two days of November. Dartmouth takes on Harvard at home on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. before travelling to Durham for a Sunday tilt at 2 p.m.
