NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Alex Adelabu scored with 26 seconds remaining in regulation to propel the Dartmouth men's soccer team over ACC member Boston College, 1-0, on Tuesday evening at Newton Soccer Field.
Dartmouth improves its record to 9-4-1 overall with three Ivy League matches remaining. The Big Green will host Harvard on Saturday evening. Boston College drops to 5-7-3 overall.
“Tonight's game was definitely our best performance of the year,” said head coach Chad Riley. “BC is a great team, who defeated No. 1 Notre Dame earlier this season.”
Senior Robin Alnas set up Adelabu's one-timer goal with a cross into the box, as the Big Green outplayed the Eagles throughout the contest and finished with an 18-5 edge in shots and corner kicks. BC's Keady Segel made seven saves in the contest, as the visitors peppered the keeper in the second half. Junior Stefan Cleveland made just one save in the opening frame.
Adelabu fired off two consecutive shots in the first six minutes of play, with his initial blast off a breakaway stopped by Segel. BC's Diego Medina-Mendez recorded an attempt in the 34th minute, where Cleveland made his only save of the game. Junior Emory Orr took the final shot of the half in the 40th minute.
Dartmouth began the firing brigade in the early minutes of the second with shots by Orr and freshman Giorgio Gorini. Senior Colin Heffron took two shots that Keady steered aside in the 73rd and 74th minute, respectively. The Big Green kept the ball in Boston College's end for the final seven minutes of play and recorded four shots, with the final hitting the twine in the 90th minute by Adelabu.
“When you get to this part of the season, there is no off switch. We were more composed in the end of the game; we kept pushing and connecting passes,” Riley commented.
