THIS WEEKEND
The Big Green women's hockey team will return to New York for the second weekend in a row to have a rematch against St. Lawrence, this time playing in Appleton Arena, the Saints' home rink, on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. The following day, Dartmouth will head down the road to Potsdam, New York, to take on defending national champion, Clarkson, at 4 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Playing its first road contest of the 2014-15 season, Dartmouth defeated ECAC Hockey rival, St. Lawrence, by a score of 5-1 in front of a crowd of 2,000 fans at a non-conference, neutral-site game on a wintry Saturday evening in the Empire State. Lindsey Allen had a big night for the Big Green, scoring the team's final three goals. Ailish Forfar netted her first marker of the season at 2:16 and Karlee Odland gave Dartmouth a 2-0 lead when she found the back of the net at 11:13, both in the first period. Two minutes later, the Saints' Jenna Marks scored the opponent's only mark of the evening but, at 16:18 in the second period, Allen scored her first goal to give Dartmouth a comfortable lead heading into the final stanza. At 17:48 and 18:35 in the third, Allen completed the hat trick by scoring two more, both on an empty net, to close the night.
NATIONAL RANKING
Earlier this week, Dartmouth received its first national ranking of the season, appearing 10th on the USCHO.com Division I poll with 12 points. The first six teams on the list remain in the same spots they were in last week. Boston College sits atop the rankings after receiving all 15 first-place votes to go along with 150 points. In second and third are Minnesota and Wisconsin with 131 and 117 points, respectively. The only other Ivy League member appearing on the list is Harvard, which is fourth with 109 points. ECAC Hockey members Quinnipiac and Boston University are fifth and sixth with 92 and 67 points, respectively, while Clarkson is seventh with 62. Mercyhurst is eighth with 43 points and Minnesota-Duluth is ninth after receiving 24. The last time the Green appeared on the list was on Feb. 11, 2012.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS (AGAIN)
Like Dartmouth, St. Lawrence played just one game last week. The week before was a busy one, as it played three road games and wrapped things up with a record of 1-2. The Saints suffered a 5-0 loss to Clarkson in their third meeting with the Golden Knights before shutting out Yale, 3-0. They ended the weekend by falling, 7-4, to Brown. After hosting the Big Green on Friday, St. Lawrence will take on Harvard at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
LOWDOWN ON THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson is currently riding a five-game winning streak, outscoring its opponents 25-3 during that time. The Golden Knights were last in action over two weeks ago, defeating Brown, 5-1, and Yale, 2-1, on the road. Clarkson has a tough weekend ahead of it, facing two nationally ranked opponents. The night before hosting the Big Green, it will face No. 4 Harvard at 7 p.m.
ECAC HOCKEY STANDINGS
Since each of the ECAC Hockey members that played over the weekend faced non-conference opponents, the standings have stayed the same as the week before. Clarkson sits atop the teams with a conference record of 3-0-0, while Dartmouth, Harvard, Quinnipiac and Princeton all fall in line directly behind with marks of 2-0-0 for a four-way tie for second. They are the only five schools that remain undefeated.
HUDAK & CO.
Having been with the Big Green women's hockey team since the 2003-04 season, Hudak has compiled a record of 209-109-28 as he is starting his 12th season. His accomplishments with the team include two Ivy League titles, two ECAC Tournament titles, one ECAC regular-season title, six NCAA Tournament appearances and two Frozen Four showings. On the bench, Hudak is joined by associate head coach Holley Tyng, who is in her 10th season with the team, and assistant coach Josh Liegl, who returns to the Big Green coaching staff for his third year.
CAPTAINS
The Green and White are led by captain Odland, and alternate captains Morgan Illikainen and Catherine Berghuis. This is the first time since the 2010-11 season that just one player will wear the 'C'. In the newly started 2014-15 season, all three have appeared in every game so far, with Odland scoring two goals and three assists, Berghuis netting one and two helpers, and Illikainen tallying one assist.
LEADING THE WAY
With her three goals and five assists, Stacey leads the Big Green with eight points. She has scored at least one point in each of the four games so far this season.
FRESH FACES
Four freshmen were added to the roster for the upcoming season. The talented group consists of forwards Brooke Ahbe, Elena Horton and Morgan Turner, and defenseman Hailey Noronha. Since first donning the Green and White uniform less than a month ago, Turner has one goal scored and Noronha leads the group with three assists.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
With a record of 4-0-0, Robyn Chemago sports a .943 save percentage and 1.25 goals against average, allowing just five goals so far. She has stopped 83-of-88 shots that have been sent her way.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR DARTMOUTH?
After their third consecutive game in New York, the Big Green will have a two-week break, returning to action on Saturday, Nov. 29 when they host Boston University at 12 p.m. in Thompson Arena.
