Dartmouth Drops Battle of Granite State to UNH, 4-1

DURHAM, N.H. – The battle of the Granite State's two Division I field hockey teams went the way of New Hampshire, 4-1, Sunday afternoon as it defeated visiting Dartmouth at Memorial Field.

The Big Green dropped to 5-11 overall with the loss, while the Wildcats improved to 8-11 with the victory.

UNH jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half with goals from Meg Flatley (4th), Lynne Lehman (34th) and Lindsey Nerbonne (35th).

Dartmouth got one back early in the second frame as freshman Julia Donald scored her fourth of the season. Donald knocked home a rebound at the right post in the 38th minute to cut the deficit to two, 3-1.

Unfortunately for the Green and White, that tally would be the only one they could muster against a Wildcats team determined not to lose on their Senior Day.

Flatley would add another goal — her 14th of the season — in the 43rd minute, answering Donald's marker and capping the afternoon's scoring.

Senior goalkeeper Ellen Meyer turned aside 11 shots in the game, while UNH split time between Carlee Tarbell (6 saves) and Melissa Rize (1 save).

The home team held a 21-11 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.

Dartmouth wraps up the 2014 season next Saturday, Nov. 8, against Cornell in Ithaca.
