THIS WEEK
After playing just one game over the weekend, Dartmouth will make up for that with a three-game week. The Big Green will kick things off with a trip to Cambridge, facing No. 7/10 Harvard at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2. They will return to Hanover to play two home games against Quinnipiac and Princeton on Friday and Saturday.
SEE IT! HEAR IT!
The game will be covered live on the New England Sports Network (NESN). It will also be on the Ivy League Digital Network (ILDN), but only for those outside New England. Chris Garrett will have the radio call on WFRD 99.3 FM.
LAST TIME OUT
Playing in Thompson Arena for the first time in almost a month, Dartmouth fell to No. 5/6 Boston University on Saturday afternoon by a score of 4-2. Trailing by four in the final stanza, junior Lindsey Allen put the Big Green on the board with her team-leading seventh goal of the season with the help of classmate Laura Stacey and sophomore Eleni Tebano. With less than three minutes left in the game, Stacey netted Dartmouth's second marker of the day, pocketing the puck in the left side of the net, Tebano recorded her second helper of the afternoon, while senior Morgan Illikainen had the other assist.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Harvard and Dartmouth have met 85 times since 1978-79 and the series is deadlocked at 41-41-3. The Crimson have won the last four games between the two teams.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard, like Dartmouth, started the season later than most teams in the conference and has only played seven games thus far. Offensively, the Crimson offense has produced an identical 22 goals as Dartmouth, coming out to 3.14 per outing. Last weekend, Harvard suffered a 10-2 loss to No. 1 Boston College but, the day after that, redeemed itself with a 4-3 victory over Northeastern. On Nov. 21, Harvard took on Boston University and battled to a 1-1 tie.
LAST TIME AGAINST HARVARD
On Feb. 2, 2014, the Big Green were defeated by the Crimson, 4-1, on home ice. The loss snapped a five-game unbeaten streak in the Upper Valley for Dartmouth. The Green and White held a 28-23 advantage in shots and through two periods, they were leading 21-13 in the shot column. Netminder Lindsay Holdcroft made 19 saves in a losing effort, while Harvard's Everance Maschmeyer stopped 27 shots throughout the game.
NATIONAL RANKING
On Monday, Nov. 10, after receiving votes the week before, Dartmouth appeared on the USCHO national poll for the first time since Feb. 11, 2012, earning the No. 10 ranking.
ECAC HOCKEY STANDINGS
Since all teams that competed over the weekend faced non-conference opponents, the ECAC Hockey standings are the same as they were the week before. After handing Clarkson its first loss of the season on Nov. 22 and defeating Princeton a few days later, Quinnipiac remains atop the standings with a record of 6-0-1, while the Golden Knights have slipped to second with a 5-1-1 mark. The Bobcats are the only team to remain undefeated in conference play. The Big Green are currently seventh with four points.
HUDAK & CO.
Having been with the Big Green women's hockey team since the 2003-04 season, Hudak has compiled a record of 209-112-28 as he continues through his 12th season. His accomplishments with the team include two Ivy League titles, two ECAC Tournament titles, one ECAC regular-season title, six NCAA Tournament appearances and two Frozen Four showings. On the bench, Hudak is joined by associate head coach Holley Tyng, who is in her 10th season with the team, and assistant coach Josh Liegl, who returns to the Big Green coaching staff for his third year.
CAPTAINS
The Green and White are led by captain Karlee Odland, and alternate captains Illikainen and Catherine Berghuis. This is the first time since the 2010-11 season that just one player will wear the 'C'. So far in the 2014-15 season, Odland leads with two goals and three assists for five points. Berghuis has netted one and two helpers, and Illikainen has tallied two assists.
LEADING THE WAY
With her five goals and six assists, Stacey leads the Big Green with 11 points. Allen is Dartmouth's leading goal-scorer with seven markers.
FRESH FACES
Four freshmen were added to the roster at the start of the season. The talented group consists of forwards Brooke Ahbe, Elena Horton and Morgan Turner, and defenseman Hailey Noronha. Ahbe was selected to the United States U18 National team that won silver at the U18 World Championships in Hungary this past year, while Noronha was a two-time member of the Canada U18 National Team that won gold in Budapest in March. Horton and Turner's teams have both played at the USA National Championships. Since first donning the Green and White uniform less than a month ago, Turner has netted one goal and Noronha leads the group with three assists.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Against Boston University on Saturday, starting goalie Robyn Chemago recorded 22 saves while allowing four goals. The sophomore has appeared in the cage for every minute so far this season, making 153 saves with a .922 save percentage and 1.87 goals against average. She has allowed just 13 goals, which is nine less than opposing netminders.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR DARTMOUTH?
The Big Green will play just two games next week before taking a two-week break. On Wednesday, Dec. 10, Dartmouth will host No. 1/1 Boston College at 7 p.m. and, on Sunday, Dec. 14, will travel to Burlington to face Vermont at 7 p.m. After that, it will not be back in action until New Year's Eve, when it faces Northeastern on the road.
