BOSTON – Like their female counterparts, the Dartmouth men's indoor track & field team finished second at Saturday's Jay Carisella Invitational hosted by Northeastern at the Reggie Lewis Center.
The Big Green posted 139 team points to finish behind only the host Huskies (154) and ahead of Granite State rival UNH (110).
In all, Dartmouth picked up four event victories, including two on the track and another two on the infield.
On the track, junior Kevin Stanko won the mile in 4:22.60, narrowly edging out Holy Cross' Trevor Dutton by just a little more than two-tenths of a second. The other victory on the oval went to the 4x400m relay team who posted a 3:22.43 to again pick up a win by the slimmest of margins.
Also in the mile, senior Joe Carey claimed third as he crossed the finish line in 4:23.01.
Dom Filiano and Max Cosculluela were the dominating forces on the infield for the Big Green, winning the shot put and the pole vault. Filiano bested the field of 37 in the shot with a toss of 53-6.25/16.31m, more than a foot and a half better than the second-place finisher.
Cosculluela won the pole vault by clearing 15-3.0/4.65m en route to earning 10 points for the team.
In the high jump, Jeremy Birck was second (6-6.25/1.99m), while Alex Frye (6-6.25/1.99m) was third; needing more attempts at the same height. Frye was also third in the 60m hurdles with an 8.42 to his credit.
Phil Gomez (1:05.22) claimed second in the 500m, while Jules Hislop (1:06.26) and Amos Cariati (1:07.36) were fifth and seventh, respectively, to also earn points for Dartmouth in the event.
Both Adam Couitt (7.13) and Thomas Reilly (7.20) qualified for the final in the 60m. Couitt was fifth and earned six points, while Reilly's sixth-place showing earned another five.
