BOSTON – The Dartmouth women's track & field team opened the 2014-15 indoor season at Boston University on Saturday in the appropriately named BU Season Opener.
Corrine Romano and Kaitlin Whitehorn each won individual events to highlight the day for the Big Green. Romano took home the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 41-10.75/12.77m, while Whitehorn cleared 5-5.75/1.67m on her first attempt to earn the top spot in the high jump at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
Other highlights from Dartmouth's first day of action in the indoor season included the 400m race that saw five members of the team earn spots in the top-10. Leading the way in the 400 was Jennifer Meech with a third-place showing in 57.07.
Bridget Flynn (5:04.37) and Bridget O'Neill (5:05.37) were second and third, respectively, in the mile race.
Whitehorn wasn't done with her day with just the high jump as she also took second overall in a field of 37 in the 200m. The junior ran a 25.00 in the fastest heat of the day. Fourth overall as well as in that same heat was teammate Sara Kikut who ran a 25.70.
Like Whitehorn, Romano also claimed second in another event on Saturday, taking the runner-up spot in the weight throw with a 49-1.75/14.98m toss to her credit.
