THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth field hockey team will begin a three-game homestand with a pair of contests this weekend in Hanover against Brown (Saturday, 12 p.m.) and Bryant (Sunday, 2 p.m.).
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green dropped their fifth game in a row to start the season with a 4-0 defeat at No. 20 Princeton last Saturday in the Ivy League opener for both teams. Senior Ellen Meyer made six saves in goal, while Ali Savage posted two of the team's three shots on goal.
SCOUTING BROWN
The Bears come to Hanover with a 4-1 overall record. The lone blemish on that mark came in the team's Ivy opener thanks to a 4-0 blanking at the hands of Columbia in Providence on Sept. 20. Brown managed to bounce back the following afternoon with a 2-1 win at home in overtime against Sacred Heart as Lucy Brown scored on a penalty shot with 7:24 remaining in the extra session. Senior Meghan O'Donnell has been the driving force behind the offense, leading the team in goals (4), assists (3) and points (11).
AGAINST THE BEARS
Traditionally, this has been a one-sided rivalry with Dartmouth holding a 26-10-2 advantage in the 38 all-time meetings. The last time Brown stole a game from the Green was a 2-0 win during the 2006 season. Since then, the Big Green have rattled off wins in the last seven meetings, including a 4-3 win in Providence last year.
SCOUTING BRYANT
The Bulldogs come to Hanover on Sunday having lost its two most recent outings, 3-1, at Maine and 2-1 in overtime at home to UC Davis on Thursday. Those two losses dropped their overall record to 2-6 this season without having played a conference game to this point. Senior Rosie Bird has been the team's offensive catalyst, leading the way with six goals and 14 points. Sophomore Victoria Danby's four assists are the most among all Bryant players in the first eight games, while senior Megan Hancock has been the primary goalkeeper, posting a 2.17 goals against average and a .757 save percentage.
AGAINST THE BULLDOGS
Like the series with Brown, this matchup has not been one to feature wins from Bryant. In six all-time meetings, Dartmouth has won five times. However, that one Bulldogs' win came last season in Hanover, 4-2.
SHUTOUT
With the 4-0 loss at Princeton, Dartmouth has now been held without a goal in its last two games after also being held scoreless at Northeastern (2-0) the previous weekend. The last time Dartmouth was blanked in consecutive games was Sept. 8-9, 2012 against American (3-0) and No. 3 Maryland (6-0).
SIMILAR SITUATION
The only other time Dartmouth played host to these two teams in consecutive home games was back in 2012 when the Big Green defeated Bryant, 6-5, in a wild affair on a Wednesday afternoon and capped it with a 3-2 win against Brown three days later on Saturday afternoon.
