TUESDAY'S GAME
The 2014 home schedule begins Tuesday morning for the Dartmouth field hockey team as it plays host to Pacific at 11:30 a.m. at Chase AstroTurf Field.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green return to Hanover after an 0-2 weekend in Evanston, Illinois, against two of the nation's top teams. It began with a 9-3 defeat at the hands of No. 14 Northwestern on Friday before suffering a 2-0 loss the following day at the hands of No. 15 Louisville in a neutral-site game at Lakeside Field.
SCOUTING PACIFIC
The Tigers wrap up their four-game New England road swing with Tuesday's game. Pacific played two games in Hanover at Chase last week while Dartmouth was out of town, defeating Vermont, 2-1, and Appalachian State, 6-1. They followed the pair of victories with a 1-0- defeat Sunday at Boston University to bring their overall record to 2-3 this fall. Against App State, Ali Campos scored four of her five goals this season, helping her to the team lead in points with 10. Laura Pujade has been the goalie of record in each game, making all five starts and playing 95% of the time in the Tigers' goal.
LAST TIME VS. PACIFIC
Tuesday will mark the fifth all-time meeting between these two programs. The last time these two met was exactly four years ago as the Tigers came to Hanover on Sept. 9, 2010 and were handed a 6-1 loss at the hands of the Big Green. Dartmouth was led that day by a hat trick from Sam McPherson and two goals from Kelly Hood. Liz Blanken chipped in with the other tally and Meagan Vakiener stopped eight while allowing just one for the victory.
BIG STOPS
Despite being saddled with both losses at Northwestern, senior goalkeeper Ellen Meyer turned aside 21 combined shots in the pair of games. She began the weekend with eight saves against the Wildcats, but matched her career high with 13 the following day versus the Cardinals.
FIRST-TIME GOAL SCORERS
Against Northwestern, two players notched the first goals of their Dartmouth careers. Senior and tri-captain Rebecca Hu netted her first as a member of the Big Green in the 26th minute with an unassisted marker. Sophomore Joanne Nazareth also got on the scoresheet for the first time with a penalty stroke in the 53rd minute to finalize the scoring on Friday afternoon.
GOOD IN OPENERS
Junior Brooke Van Valkenburg scored Dartmouth's first goal of the year in the 14th minute of Friday's game with Northwestern. It marked the second time in her three years with the team that the Garden City, New York, native has found the back of the cage in the opening game of the season, accomplishing the feat in the 2012 opener at UMass in her first collegiate contest.
CLOSE TO 100
Assisting on Van Valkenburg's tally, senior Ali Savage picked up her first point of the season and the 93rd of her career. The Australian native is now just seven points away from becoming the fourth player in school history to reach 100 points in a career.
FAMILIAR FACE
On the Pacific sideline will be a familiar face as head coach Andy Smith leads the Tigers. Smith spent 10 years (2002-11) with Dartmouth as Amy Fowler's top assistant and recruiting coordinator before leaving to work at Cal and now Pacific.
