HANOVER, N.H. – Despite outshooting the opponent and controlling a lot of the action, the Dartmouth women's hockey team was shutout by Colgate, 2-0, in Thompson Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Green dipped to 10-9-1 and 6-7-1 in ECAC Hockey play, while the Raiders improved to 6-19-0 and 3-10-0 in conference action.
Colgate got on the board first, as Miriam Drubel scored at 5:47 in the second period from directly outside the net, forcing the puck behind sophomore Robyn Chemago's legs. Two minutes later, a shot by fellow sophomore Kennedy Ottenbreit hit off the left pipe and looked as if it could deflect into the cage, but it bounced out of harm's way.
Colgate put the game further out of Dartmouth's reach when Kayla Haus found the back of the net just 44 seconds into the third stanza, narrowly beating Chemago by shooting to the right of the goal a split second before she could get there. There were a number of close calls, but the home team was not able to get past Colgate's netminder, Ashlynne Rando.
Dartmouth outshot Colgate, 27-21, with sophomore Eleni Tebano leading the way with five attempts. Rando earned her fifth win of the season, stopping 27 shots, while Chemago had 19 saves throughout the game.
The Upper Valley squad will be on the road next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31, first traveling to New Jersey for a 7 p.m. game at Princeton before going to Connecticut to face Quinnipiac at 4 p.m. the next day.
