HANOVER, N.H. - After going toe-to-toe with No. 64 Indiana for more than four hours at the Boss Tennis Center on Saturday evening, No. 46 men's tennis team lost a 4-3 decision to the Hoosiers. The loss dropped the Big Green to 3-1 on the young season.
“Hats off to Indiana," head coach Chris Drake said. "They fought hard and came away with a victory by winning the crucial points at the end of doubles and singles tonight."
Junior Dovydas Sakinis and senior Chris Kipouras picked up the lone doubles victory, defeating Indiana's Daniel Bednarczyk and Sam Monette, 6-3, at No. 1. The Big Green lost the remaining two doubles matches to give Indiana the 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Kipouras evened the match at 1-1 by virtue of his 6-2, 7-6 victory over Bednarczyk at No. 2. The Hoosiers scored the next two points in the match, putting Dartmouth on the brink of defeat. Needing to win the final three matches to secure a victory, the Green and White fought to within one point of a win.
Sakinis and freshman Max Fliegner both won in three sets to square the match at three. After winning his second set in a tie-breaker to force a third and deciding set for the team match, junior Brendan Tannenbaum forced another tie-breaker before finally succumbing to IU's Matthew McCoy at No. 4.
The team will play on the road at No. 49 Minnesota next Friday and at No. 40 Drake on Sunday.
