PHILADELPHIA — The No. 10 Dartmouth women's squash team picked up its first win of the season, defeating Drexel, 5-4, on Friday evening.
The Big Green secured the matches at 5-1. The contest was played using a five-court system with only two rounds of five matches.
In the first round of matches, senior Oona Morris secured a close 3-0 win at number six. Freshman Rebecca Brownell (8) and senior Helena Darling (4) had edgy starts before coming away with 3-1 wins to put Dartmouth in front 3-0.
Junior Tori Dewey (2) won the first game but lost the next three making it 3-1 Dartmouth after the opening round matches.
Sophomore Hanna Balcha won the exhibition match, 3-1.
In the final round of play, sophomore Madeline Fraser (9) and freshman Zainab Molani (7) won their respective matches, 3-0. Zainab's win securing the win for the Big Green who took 5-1 advantage after her performance.
Senior Sarah Caughey (5) lost a close match 3-1 and sophomore Jacqueline Barnes (1) lost in a very close decision, 3-0. The final game of the contest featured junior Lydie McKenzie (3), who dropped an incredibly close match going the distance 11-7in the fourth game.
Dartmouth will return to action on Saturday when they meet Penn at 12 p.m.
