PRINCETON, N.J. – The Dartmouth volleyball team fell to Princeton, 3-0, (23-25, 21-25, 25-27) in Dillon Gym on Friday night.
The Tigers improved to 10-8 overall and 5-4 in Ivy League play, while the Big Green dipped to 9-9 and 6-3 in conference action.
Junior Emily Astarita had 14 kills and senior Kayden Cook finished the evening with 33 assists. Freshman Zoe Leonard had 13 digs to lead both squads.
"We had a rough outcome tonight," head coach Erin Lindsey said. "We played really well at times, with Emily and both of our middles bringing strong offensive performances. Zoe also passed really well and we were able to side out at a pretty good percentage. The match really came down to to our inability to get our serves in and where they needed to be. Offensively, Princeton was balanced and efficient, but we still had good opportunities in both the first and third set that we did not capitalize on."
In a first set controlled by the Tigers in the early stages, the Green did a good job catching up and tying the score by the middle of the set (15-15). Following a kill by freshman Sierra Lyle and a Princeton error, Dartmouth took a 21-20 lead, but the Tigers soon took the advantage back with three straight points. Tied at 23, two Princeton kills ended the set.
With Princeton ahead, 13-4, in the second, Dartmouth got within three points on a four-point run that consisted of a pair of kills by Astarita and senior Allison Brady, but a single Tiger kill gave set two to the home team.
The Green enjoyed an early lead in the third that would last the majority of the set. An error by Princeton put Dartmouth at game point (24-22), but three straight points on the other side of the net gave the Tigers a 25-24 lead. A Lyle kill put off the end of the match, but only briefly, as two kills for Princeton soon handed the home team its third victory.
Dartmouth will return to action on Saturday with a 5 p.m. match against Penn.
