TULSA, Okla. – Dartmouth men's tennis returned to the court for another day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America Championship on Monday, competing in the qualifying singles first and consolation round this time.
In the first round of qualifying singles, junior Diego Pedraza had a very close match with Nebraska's Dusty Boyer, falling narrowly in the first set, 7-6, before turning things around to win the next two, 6-2, 6-3, to take the entire match. Sophomore Ciro Riccardi faced Alfredo Perez of Florida, falling by scores of 6-1, 7-5.
Later on in the day in the consolation round of the qualifying singles event, Riccardi had an easy win over Victor Pereira of Eastern Washington, 6-3, 6-1.
“It was great to see our team continue to make strides today,” assistant coach Tom Boysen said. “Obviously, Diego had a very nice win over a talented, ranked opponent. Pedraza did a terrific job expanding leads in the final two sets of the match. Ciro bounced back nicely in his second match of the day and did a really good job of attacking and playing offensive tennis.”
On Tuesday, Pedraza will play in the second round of qualifying singles and will pair up with Riccardi in the first round of qualifying doubles. Seniors Dovydas Sakinis and Brendan Tannenbaum, who got a first round bye, will play their second round doubles match that day.
