LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green are coming off a 1-1-0 weekend at home against Brown and Yale. The home team skated to a 7-3 win against Brown on Friday only to suffer a 4-2 loss in a hard-fought contest the following night to No. 12 Yale.
SCOUTING PRINCETON
The Tigers, like the Big Green, come into the weekend with a 1-3-0 overall record. However, Princeton is only 0-2-0 in ECAC play after opening the season with two non-conference games at the Capital City Classic in Trenton against Yale and Maine. The lone win of the young season remains the 3-1 triumph over the Black Bears on Halloween. The team's record is misleading, though, as they have battles in each game with Colton Phinney providing solid numbers in goal for the Tigers so far. In four games, Phinney has a 2.28 goals against average and a .943 save percentage, a figure that ranks ninth nationally.
AGAINST THE TIGERS
Dartmouth went 4-0-0 against Princeton a season ago, including a two-game sweep in the ECAC Hockey Tournament First Round in Hanover. Despite the four-games-to-none advantage, the Big Green played a tight series with the Tigers, winning three games by two goals and another by just one.
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
The only unbeaten and untied team in the nation, the Bobcats are currently No. 4 in the USCHO poll and No. 3 in the USA Hockey rankings. Quinnipiac is powered by senior Travis St. Denis (7-3-10) and Sam Anas (4-6-10) on the front lines and rookie Chase Priskie (1-8-9) on the backend. However, senior goaltender Michael Garteig is the backbone of the team as he is now in his third season as the starting netminder. So far this year, he is already 8-0-0 playing all 481 minutes of action in the crease for his team and boasts a 1.75 goals against average to go along with his .928 save percentage.
AGAINST THE BOBCATS
The runaway regular season champion a year ago, Quinnipiac struggled to put away the pesky Big Green in both games of 2014-15. In the Hamden game in early December, it took a Soren Jonzzon overtime goal 1:48 into the extra period to give the then-15th-ranked Bobcats the 2-1 win. Dartmouth returned the favor in the final regular season game of the season with a 3-1 win over No. 10 Quinnipiac at Thompson.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior forward Troy Crema became the first Dartmouth player this season to earn a weekly accolade for his play on the ice. The Toronto native was tabbed as the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week thanks to five points against Brown (0-4-4) and Yale (1-0-1). Crema set a new career high with four helpers against the Bears on Friday, after entering the weekend with just six in his career. He followed up with his first goal of the year against the Bulldogs, his first since Jan. 30 of last season against RPI.
TWO-FER
Seniors Jack Barre and Nick Bligh each scored twice in the four-goal victory against Brown. It was the first multi-goal game of Bligh's career and the second for Barre who also had a pair against Sacred Heart last December. That game against the Pioneers was the last time two Dartmouth players each had a pair of markers in the same game as Eric Neiley also notched two in the 8-3 win.
CAREER DAYS
To say it was a good day to be a Dartmouth player versus Brown might be an understatement. In all, nine players either set or tied career highs in goals, assists or points.
Cameron Roth: assists (1) | points (1)
Troy Crema: assists (4) | points (4)
Alex Jasiek: goals (1) | points (1)
Jack Barre: goals/2x (2)
Brett Patterson: goals/8x (1)
Grant Opperman: assists/5x (2)
Carl Hesler: assists/4x (1)
Nick Bligh: goals (2)
Kyle Nickerson: assists/5x (1) | points/6x (1)
ANOTHER IVY
Dartmouth will play its fifth Ivy League opponent to open the season when it takes on Princeton after two against Harvard and the pair against Brown and Yale. It marks the first time since the 2001-02 season that that scheduling anomaly has occurred. The Big Green went 3-1-1 in that stretch with wins over Brown (6-3), Yale (5-2), Princeton (5-2) and a loss (5-2) and a tie (3-3/OT) to Harvard.
CHALLENGING SLATE
When Dartmouth takes to the ice in Hamden on Saturday, it will also mark the fourth time in the first six games this season that the Green and White will face-off with a team ranked in the top-15 of that week's national polls. Harvard was No. 11 when it played the first two games of the season, while Yale was No. 12 in last week's rankings. On the strength of its 8-0-0 start, Quinnipiac has climbed up to No. 4 this week.
WELCOME TO THE PARTY
Freshmen Alex Jasiek and Cameron Roth joined in on the scoring against the Bears as both notched their first career points in the game. Jasiek scored the Green's first goal at 17:32 of the opening period, while Roth collected an assist on Bligh's power-play goal midway through the second period.
IN GOAL…
Head coach Bob Gaudet '81 once again rotated through his two senior goalies last weekend. James Kruger got the nod against the Bears and picked up the win while making 21 saves. Charles Grant made 17 saves the following night, but was saddled with the loss against the Bulldogs.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Dartmouth begins a seven-game road trip with the two games this weekend. After a week break for exams, the Big Green will travel to play two at Michigan in late November, followed by road games at Union, Rensselaer and UNH in December. The last time Dartmouth played seven straight games away from Hanover in one season was at the end of 2013-14 when it finished the regular season with Colgate and Cornell before a three-game first-round match-up at RPI and two games at Union in the quarterfinals. A nine-game stretch (3-2-4) came in the 2003-04 regular season from mid-November through the end of December that ended with a pair of games in Vermont's holiday tournament against UMass and Minnesota State.
