LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green dropped their first two games of the season last weekend against No. 11 Harvard, 7-0, at home and 5-2 the following night on the road in Cambridge.
SCOUTING BROWN
The Bears played just one game during its season-opening weekend, a 7-5 loss at home to Holy Cross on Saturday evening. Despite the defeat, Brown's offensive firepower was on display against the Crusaders as five different players scored goals. Senior Nick Lappin and freshmen Tommy Marchin and Max Gottlieb all had two-point nights, while 11 players total picked up at least one. Junior goalie Tim Ernst stopped 28 in the loss.
AGAINST THE BEARS
Dartmouth swept Brown with relative ease last season, winning at home in November, 6-0, before taking a 6-3 win in Providence later on in the year. The Bears have just two wins against the Big Green since the start of the 2008-09 season as both were within weeks of one another in 2013. Dartmouth is currently on a three-game win streak at the expense of their rivals from Providence and has wins in 14 of the last 17 meetings (14-2-1).
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs opened their 2015-16 season by winning the Capital City Classic in Trenton this past weekend. Yale defeated Princeton, 3-1, in the opener before taking the crown the following night against UMass, 6-1. Freshman Joe Snively and juniors Mike Doherty and John Hayden each had two goals in the weekend with Snively netting the first two of his collegiate career Saturday against the Minutemen. Alex Lyon — one of the top goalies in the country a season ago — was strong between the pipes, stopping 53-of-55 shots in the two victories.
AGAINST THE BULLDOGS
These two split last year's season series with the road team winning each time. After the Elis took the November game in Hanover, 4-1, the Big Green shocked the college hockey community by scoring six times in a win February in New Haven. At that point of the season, Yale was the top defensive team in the nation and was allowing just 1.45 goals against per game, but was forced to pull Lyon as the Dartmouth offense rolled with six different goal scorers.
KALK IS KILLING IT!
Obviously preseason goals don't count toward season totals, but taking into account his play in the exhibition and scrimmage games against the USNTDP and PEI, sophomore Corey Kalk has been very sharp. Kalk netted his first of the regular season with a nifty move at the blueline before depositing the puck in the back of the goal from an impossible angle during the second period of Sunday night's game in Cambridge. Kalk had three goals in the preseason as well to lead the Big Green.
BLIGH'S BLAST
Senior Nick Bligh scored the first goal of the 2015-16 season just 6:35 into the first period of Sunday's contest. For Bligh, who was centering the top line along with team captain Brad Schierhorn and fellow senior Tim O'Brien, the goal was the 10th of his career.
ERNSTING'S FIRST
Freshman John Ernsting became the first member of the Class of 2019 to register a point when he was credited with an assist on Kalk's goal after starting the play with an outlet pass in the defensive zone.
DEVIN'S DEBUT
It probably wasn't the ideal situation to make his collegiate debut, but sophomore Devin Buffalo finally saw meaningful action between the pipes as he came into Saturday night's opener against Harvard midway through the game. The Wetaskiwin, Alberta, native was credited with a dozen saves, while allowing two goals.
BACK IN THE MIX
Brett Patterson has been both a defenseman and a forward in his three previous seasons with the Big Green. The senior from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, had been a staple on the backend the last two seasons, but was listed at the third-line center this past weekend, picking up a point on Kalk's goal in Cambridge.
CENTURY CLUB
Friday night's game against Brown will mark the 100th for senior captain Brad Schierhorn who had played 98 career games coming into this season. Schierhorn will become the 91st player in the program's 110-year history to reach the milestone figure.
FOLLOW ALONG
Both games this weekend will be carried live and in HD on the Ivy League Digital Network for subscribers. Fans can also follow along with live stats on DartmouthSports.com as well as the team's official Twitter account (@Dartmouth_MIH) for in-game updates and commentary. WHAT'S AHEAD?
Dartmouth hits the road for the first two of seven straight away from Hanover when it travels to Princeton (Nov. 13) and Quinnipiac (Nov. 14) next weekend. Games at Michigan, Union, RPI and UNH will also be included in the seven-game road trip.
