ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Dartmouth women's squash team defeated George Washington in a close 5-4 match in Annapolis, Md.
The victory improves the Big Green to 2-1, while the Colonials fall to 4-3.
Sophomore Janel Gaube got her team off to a quick start after she won in straight games. Seniors Lydie McKenzie and Tori Dewey fought hard, but eventually fell to their opponents in five games. Junior Maddie Fraser recovered for a 3-2 win after coming from behind twice in the match. Down 3-2, the pressure was on Dartmouth heading into the next series of matches.
Sophomore Zainab Molani stepped up when the Green needed her, winning in three straight games. Becky Brownell followed up with a victory for Dartmouth, but Jacqueline Barnes could not beat her opponent.
With the match tied 4-4, it came down to Big Green freshman Carly Rizzuto, who swept her opponent securing the victory for Dartmouth.
The Big Green return to the court on Dec. 7, when Dartmouth travels to Trinity.
